Just curious, do we have any composers on this bloody site? And no, writing pop music does not make you a composer.

I've been composing for awhile now, and I generally compose in a 20th century/contemporary "tonal" style, but atonality fascinates me as well.

I compose the same John Cage piece in public and people don't even notice.

I fiddle around on piano and write out the good sessions into sheet music in Finale and get some friends every now and then into it. A good friend of mine plays violin and viola and sometimes I'll have her add something to it. We have a band idea formulating as well that I've written a couple songs for. Does any of that count?

Of course it does. That sounds like an interesting set-up you have there. What kind of music is it that you write?

Dark cabaret/alternative. We've got a couple ideas and we're going to ask a friend who plays drums and possibly another friend who is a pianist, but him if we don't find someone instead of me to do vocals. I think I'd prefer hiding behind my piano. But if there is no one, I'm the one with training so I can predict that they'll all look to me. :P

Musical training is such a curse, eh?

Generally, yep, lol. Lots of interesting and useful stuff I know because of it though. And I have lots of stories about my scary vocal coach.

I also compose, usually for a mixed choir, but sometimes for a chamber orchestra.

But one day I'll be decomposing!
