That, is crossdressing, which doesn't necessarily mean they are transgender. Crossdressing can just mean that they are a man and think they are a man, for instance, but want to dress in women's clothing. Transgender means that they are mentally a girl when they are physically a boy. They can also crossdress, but they are not only crossdressers. They are a woman in a man's body. Some transgenders also get surgery, FTM or MTF depending. Again, crossdressers just want to dress in the clothing of the other gender, and wouldn't be the ones to get surgery.

Single parents also have the traits of being a transgender. They have to take on both rolls. Being a father and a mother. Gender and sex are two different things.

crossdressing is different a guy can wear dresses and still indentify themselves a a guy but if a person is transgender they are not satisfyed with the sex there were born into so they call themselves the opposite sex and eventually many get the surgery to change it

Transgender is generally used as an umbrella term for anybody who is gender-variant, or gender-nonconforming, although it's being used more as a term specifically for transsexuals, which is what Rith explained earlier, where someone is assigned a certain anatomical sex (penis or vagina and breasts) however they identify (mentally and psychologically) with the opposite. That being said, there is lots of room between "male" and "female" known as the gender spectrum which I won't get into because people will think I'm preachy.

Also, whoever said that single parents are transgender: no. That's gender roles, which are totally different, arbitrary, and frankly, complete bullshit.
