I'm thinking about starting an "Occupy" in my town. Not a huge one, but, we gotta add to the shiz.

Post below why or why not.

Let's all jump on the bandwagon.

Not you specifically, I just feel like this is the same as the London riots. Doing it just because the other people are doing it.

Wait, what's the "occupy" stuff again? I've heard of it, don't know what exactly they're protesting though. /in a nutshell Is it obvious that I don't give a damn? I read the newspaper for the sudoku puzzles.

Dude you have the right to protest. Honestly I don't care, but you can go for it

I want to know opinions.

Go for it, but please learn the reasons behind the movement first and educate yourself on the facts. You going out there and not knowing what you're doing just makes the entire movement look bad. I'd also recommend using craigslist or facebook or some other community network thing to get older people involved as well.

Okay :) I will research like no ones business before I start anything serious, because I do have some information.. but, you never know.

Good luck! Like Sage said said, do research on it and educate yourself. Where I live there is an oddly big Occupy movement here, they've made it on local news and seemed to know what they're talking about. I would love to join the protest, but with school and everything I sadly don't have the time to devout to it.

I'm going to say no, you are only 14. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but, you can't even legally have a job. Who would join you? Adults usually stay with adults. Plus, those occupy movements are annoying to some people, and, if you are in a small - republican (which Indiana usually is) area, then, you'll likely to face lots of criticism. Is it really worth it for you?

I don't even know why they're protesting.
Protesting and causing trouble is stupid, in my opinion.

Just read the reasons.
Protesting isn't gonna make a difference.
You're 14, what do you even have to protest for?
Lol....

Dude, I see it as, if you truly believe in something, you gotta show it. Fight for your beliefs.

So protesting the Vietnam War in the 60s was pointless as well? Of course not. This country was built on the idea that one should stand up for one's beliefs. Regardless of whether or not the protest changes something or not, it's a right that we have, and we're exercising those rights.
Also, it's almost impossible for a protest not to change *something*, especially when the protests are as large and widespread as the Occupy movement is. Whether it changes what it wants to change, we have yet to see. But people have been inspired by these movements. And therefore it is not a waste, no matter what happens.
*step down from soapbox* ...*again*

As far as responding to Eric. Yes, go for it! But, like Sage and someone else said, educate yourself. Don't look stupid, because you're representing the movement. No pressure :p

Do you really hear yourself?Protesting isn't going to make a difference, than what will?Do you have any other solutions to fixing our economy in America?

If you don't at least try, than you will never know if you could have done. It's not only about if you do make it, it is sometimes just the thought of trying that counts.

Oh, and they have good reasons (http://www.buzzfeed.com/jpmoore/reasons-people-are-occupying-wall-street) too.

I will do this. I am going to go against every single thing my dad says. I am going to do it.

Stand up for what you believe . But never ever lose sight about what the protest is really about. Personally I believe the only viable way to change things is armed revolution -- which is something that the American people just don't seem to be ready for.

I strongly disagree with your thoughts of starting an occupy movement, no matter how big. Yes you do have your 1st ammendment rights so you can protest, but as far as rioting or occupying public property and disrupting the daily lives of others and basically taking over things payed by tax payers is where I draw the line. I in know way support the occupy in New York, they have abused their 1st ammendment rights and for that they should have them "evoked" in a since and arrested. They have damaged property, threatened violece, and have disrupted many people's lives.

If you do it, team up with an adult. That will be your best bet. I am not big on protesting because it tends to be very unobjective, so I voted no. However, I strongly believe in following your heart, so if it says do it, do it.

But please, be an example and don't make a fool of yourself like many of the occupy movements have. Stay objective and be peaceful or no one will take you seriously.

ITT: Oh you're 14 and, by extension, completely ignorant.

I say go for it. When you need to get a job, don't you want to make sure there are jobs left?

That being said, I don't think it takes a psychology undergrad to know that 14 year olds aren't in the respect authority (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeQUlr4Xc3s) stage  .

well based on whats happened in london, la, philidelphia and nyc then id say no. they had to break up the camps in la, philidelphia and nyc and in london theres high court appeals, st pauls cathedral was closed and people resigned. really unless u live in a city with a financial district (like london and nyc, not sure bout la or philadelphia (is there not a shorter way of writing philadelphia??!) or have a reason for it, then theres not much point
