Hey,
I'm sure we have all heard of people having gaydars and how to tell if someone is gay.....
Many people just poo poo the idea, however, I believe that there are some wats of telling.
U can sometimes smell gay people, they give off a certain scent along with their natural smell. Thus method has worked twice for me. I wanted to know if other people have similar things?

Never heard of being able to "smell" a Gay person. Sounds crazy to me. I know a really badly smelling Gay friend, and a really nice smelling Gay friend, so I don't know...

Smell? I don't see how that works. Do all gays smell alike?
Gaydar is bullshit.

It's not really a good or bad smell. It's like, smell your own skin, smells quite neutral if anything. Its kinda like a neutral smell.
Gaydar does give a rough guide, but nothing will be concrete until the person actually comes out. And the smell doesn't work for all gays, just some and it varies, like different stengths. But ultimately its all similar
You could say that the smell isn't very good to rely on, but coupled with other common gaydars and it helps.
Personally I think all of those who poo poo gaydars either haven't tried or aren't in touch with their feelings

Forgive me... This is complete bullshit!
Right, sorry about that, but really, I'm not one for this supernatural shit, and what you're saying is... Well, I'm afraid that I quite frankly don't believe you. Sorry if I'm being a bit harsh, but this is ridiculous. Of course you can't 'detect' or 'smell' if someone's gay. Human beings are all human beings. Sexuality does not determine physical features, physical features do not determine sexuality. Phrase that however you please, there is no correlation between the two. Gay people have two arms, two legs, a head, face, ears, mouth, you get what I'm saying.
Sorry if I offended you, but what you're saying is absurd!
Edit: Having read again, I can't tell if you're trolling or you genuinely think this.

No, I genuinely believe this. It's not gonn a work 100% of the time but its alright. I have friends who believe this aswell

I believe it exists in a way. The obvious people are often the ones that show signs of extreme homophobia. For example, people that say fag every second word are usually expressing fear or their own sexuality in a way that they think will make other people believe they are heterosexual. It's a way of comforting themselves. I don't understand how they can comfort themselves by offending other people.
Other than some psychological cues such as this, I don't think there exists a gaydar or sixth sense for detecting gays.

It just depends. Some people just look, act or talk like a gay person usually does.
There's a guy at work who just LOOKS gay, I don't know why he does, something in his face, his expression.. and then I heard him speak, and he talks like a stereotypical gay guy from a movie! I asked someone to confirm, he is.
I also have a mate who has none of the characteristics you'd expect to find in a gay man. He looks perfectly straight, girls on his arm just suit him better somehow.. But he's gay too.
It also depends on how open the person is willing to be when it comes to showing their sexuality, I think. The guy at work has obviously adopted a "gay" demeanor at some point, whilst my friend has not.
In short, gaydar doesn't work unless there are clues to follow, which anyone can if they know them.

Gay people aren't all naturally effeminate. Some are, but so are some straight people. Honestly these stereotypes based on sexuality annoy me massively. If you're gay, you like men, straight, like women. Simple.
Obviously reverse that for gay women.

I really LOL'd.
Biggest BS ever. Gay people don't "smell".
This makes no sense. A state of mind* has nothing to do with smells.
*I mean that as being gay doesn't change your appearance in any way*

You can't be trying to tell me that all homosexuals are initiated into homosexuality and taught secret signs to indicate their sexuality to other homosexuals. Please explain what you actually meant, because I hope to hell that it's not what I interpreted it as.

I'm really sorry if this caused anyone distress or offense.
However, if I'm honest, I think you are taking this way too heavily.
The smelling thing only works for a small amount of people, however, every time i have smelled someone with it, they actually turned out gay or bi.
Obviously all gays are different and this is why the sniffing won't diagnose most people, all im saying is that ii hasn't failed me yet.
And as for other "signs", I believe 8 out of 10 gays show signs of some sort that they are gay. Whether beijg hand movements, the way they walk, how they talk, behavioural patterns etc...
So if you know all of these signs, you can make a pretty good guess at whether thwy are or not.
Again though, its only a guess and nothing is concrete. But so far I have guessed at least 10 "discreter" gay guys succesfully and am still on the case for 2 people.
You could say it takes one to know one and yeah I'd agree, but like sherlock Holmes, if you study everything and leave no stone unturned then you can nirmally make a pretty accurate guess.
I believe that most gay people are born gay and some show signs when they are far to young to understand these things, hense like when i was about 7 or 8, i would always persuade my friends to show eachother our private parts.
Also, apparently gay people do give off a different (scent, hormone, pheromone) I dont onow i just heard it in science class.
Lastly, I can't talk for everyone when i say this but, when you come out to yourself, over time you start picking up stereotypical traits of gay people (which is very annoying)
Ps. I'm very interested in this sort of stuff and do study psychology

Lol well be careful you never know, usually you can't smell your own naturql smell
Not all gay people smell like that though, and most people don't take enough notice of their surroundings and don't know what to sniff out for so generally ur safe.

I don't think gaydar has anything to do with tell-tale signs of stereotypical gays. My gaydar doesn't work like that. There's just a certain sort of aura, a feeling you get, that I've found after years of knowing people of different sexualities. But there's always people who come off completely straight and actually turn out to be gay.

i understand what you mean but i never could tell if a person was anything other than straight i never knew how many people that are something other than straight in the south till 8th grade because of all the homophobia and bi-phobia
then i came to my realization a few monthes ago "dude ur bi"... in that since a gaydar can't work because the person belives they are truely straight

I'll be honest, I have a pretty good gaydar. But, if I do think somebody is gay I don't spread out rumors, they can come out if they want to, not my business.

^Good attitude. I sometimes tell my best friends if we sre on that subject, but we dont ever spread it. Usually i just keep it to myself and wait for them to come out either to me or openly.
And I get what you mean about an aura, this is the 6ixth sense thing I was tqlking about. I have the natural instinct (aura picking up thingy), smell test and comparing them to both me and stereotypes.
I don't display any signs that im gay, only the fact that im a complete pussy when it fomes to pain and sport (theres a very thin line between the two haha). So comparing them with me helps to give another point of view.

It's just sometimes people give off some kind of homosexual pheromone.

my "gaydar" is non existent two of my exs have turned out gay. one of my close friends came out last year. i had no idea. and everyone else i was like "no way".
but i guess the smell thing could have some science behind it.
scientists say that we are subconsciously attracted to certain people because of a connection between out natural oders so it maybe the same kind of thing. some pepole might be adore to "sniff out" gay people subconsciously.
