I feel I am one of the very few teenagers who does not smoke (anymore at least), does not do drugs, does not drink, and doesn't plan on losing their virginity any time soon. This generation is so screwed up, that being a teenager has become about sex and drugs. No wonder our parents don't trust us.

I am exactly the same as you.

Cool. Whatever works for you, don't let anyone tell you different. I agree on many points and disagree on many points, but I won't go any deeper since this post is probably about to become a bloodbath of a debate.

I'm the same exact way. In fact in a previous thread when I said I was proud to be a virgin, so many people jumped on that issue saying I should not be proud. (To those who want to bring that issue here, I was bringing up a point not trying to start a debate.) But I'm exactly in your position and I agree with you 100%

Yeah man, that's fine. Do what you want. I don't mind straight edge teens, just as long as they don't criticize what I do in my personal time.

Yup, I am like you too. Never smoked, never drugged myself, never drinks, and never had sex.
If I do drink once, I'm going to make myself unpure on that day and take back what I said ;D

I am the same. But that doesn't mean I don't respect other people who aren't like this.

What exactly is the debate here?

I'm just going to copy and paste what I posted in the other straight edge thread.

Let’s do some drugs together! Amirite?
Group think is stupid. Only in America are people so god damn proud of things they don’t even do. What is with this elitist snobbery? You aren’t a better or more reasonable person just because you don’t do drugs, especially if you create a dogma out of it. Period. I can’t wait until this stupid trend dies out again. How many straight-edge kids do you think take Ibuprofen when they have a headache? We are all druggies, whether you want to be or not. Being proud of not doing drugs is the same thing as being proud of not eating pickles.

You aren’t better than anybody, not even the dude sucking off some guy for a crack rock. You’re just as useless, you’re just as useful. Most importantly, you are just as painfully human, whether you want to be or not, whether you abstain from drugs or not.

The rest of his debate against straight edge is carried out here. (http://saturninefilms.tumblr.com/post/1523369693)

I find straight edge to be quite dumb and agree with everything my friend says in the quote and link. I don't really want to go talking much on this subject though, because it annoys and bores me to death, just like every other scene in the world.

I am not saying that at all. I was simply stating a fact. I don't care really think it matters either way. I don't think this is something kids should be telling everyone. If its an accomplishment for them, fine. What's the difference if it isn't causing any problem?

I have smoked. I have drank. I haven't done drugs. I am a virgin.

I am so sorry. I feel awful. I wish I could take it all back.

Yes, most teens understand they're wrong. Although not /all/ teens do it,in fact a majority of my friends do NOT do it.

As to the fact parents don't trust us? My parents grew up in the 70s, They did drugs, went out had promiscuous sex and all those good things. Maybe they think we're just like them?

As for the straight edge part, yes,I am. No I don't see a point in advertising it. All you have to do is say "No thanks" if someone offers you that stuff. No reason to go on a big tangent about straight edge :)

Just do whatever burps your worm man. Your teenage years are most likely to be your rebellious ones, hence you'd be more likely to do all that. But if you don't want to, then that shouldn't be a big deal. Personally I'd just advise you to do whatever you enjoy and make the most out of these few years, and if you really are doing this to navigate yourself onto some kind of moral high ground then you're making terrible use of your time. A person who drinks, smokes, does drugs, has sex on a daily basis isn't any better or worse than someone who restrains themselves. It's a personal choice, but preferably it should be on the premise of the right reasons.

I don't have issues with people who haven't done drugs. I have issues with this straight-edge fashion. Sounds elitist and almost cultic. And yeah, dumb. Why isn't it just "I don't do drugs" but "dude, I'm straight-edge." Sounds like something the emo and scene kids would be into. I'm waiting for Hot Topic to start selling shirts for it.

Oh wait. (http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Apparel/TShirts/Graphic//Sweet+amp+Toxic+Drug+Free+Girls+T-Shirt-185235.jsp) Wow, I guessed right.

Someone who smokes, isn't just a smoker. Someone who takes drugs isn't just a badass druggie. Someone who's lost their virginity isn't just someone with "tainted purity."

There's a lot more to them than just that. I don't think of my friends who take drugs as "druggies" and I don't think of myself as "straight edge." Neither do I think of myself as a "cutter," and I never did think of myself as "the anorexic," though everyone else did. It just seems so superficial, distinguishing a person by the group you think they belong in.

So what if they smoke, have sex, drink or take drugs? So what if they don't? They aren't -just- sex and drugs and goodies. What I have a problem with is how shallow some people are. It's ridiculous how quick we are to judge. Okay, I understand that everyone is judgemental to some extent, some are just more vocal than others.

But it's stupid not giving a person a chance, just because you don't -think- they deserve it. We're always pointing fingers, saying she's a bitch, he's a nerd, that's a bully, he's gay, she's a junkie, he's emo, she's popular. That isn't all they are! Why do we need these stupid labels?

It's like, if she wears tons of makeup and has big boobs, she must be a slut. If he gets good grades, has the perfect family and smiles all the time, his life must be perfect. If he drinks and smokes, he must be a rebellious cunt. Effing christ people, it's more than just skin deep.

I don't take any drugs etc, but I don't care if somebody does.
That doesn't change my opinion of them in any way.

Funny, all the people I know who shop at Hot Topic are stoners.
But I agree that if you choose not to do drugs, drink, have sex, whatever, that's totally your choice. But throwing a label on there like straight-edge seems as through you're trying to attain some sort of higher moral ground, which is when I start to get irritated. Deadpie basically spoke my mind earlier in this thread.

I agree- it's only stupid once you start putting a name to it.

Straight Edge?.. Weird way to put it. Anyways, I've never done any of what you stated and I plan to keep my virginity for at least a few more years.. Lets see how strong my resolve is.. Anyways, you have to realize, some people are that way for a reason, whatever it may be. Some choose to be that way, and that's their fault.

I think we're just the same as our parents. If anything stats prove that teen pregnancy was higher back in our parents generations. Losing the virginity has also gone down same with murder and violent crime committed by young people.

My hypothesis is that as things go down, the reporting and media and culture surrounding it goes up making us think it's an epidemic when in reality the numbers are going down.

Me I drink booze in moderation, I don't smoke but kinda wanna try an apple cigar, and I would be fine with losing the virginity.
