My brother has two.
One is a Chinese symbol of strength on his bad shoulder. He is a swimmer (it looks amazing in the water) and he has had problems with his shoulder for 5 years. The doctors basically told him there was nothing he could do about it but ice before and after swimming and it should take SOME pain away.
He got another one with the Chinese symbol of love on his other shoulder.
He said he's gonna get a heart on his heart and it's gonna say "Callie and Eric." That's me and my sister. :) I love my brother.

I don't get it either. Honestly, based on just aesthetics, I'd go for a kanji character instead if anything. But my dad has the Chinese character foo on his upper arm. He wanted a band with a Celtic dragon but he didn't want to wait two weeks.
Opportunity to dump my tattoo shall be taken.

That was my birthday present to me, in case no one noticed the multiple posts I made after I got it. :P I still haven't gone it to get it touched up. It doesn't look as good as that, that picture was the night I got it. My tattoo artist did say there might be gaps when the swelling went down. Since it was such a small and delicate design, he used only a detail needle, even to shade the raven. And that shows currently. But I still love it. Despite its imperfections. That's what you get for getting it in some random tattoo parlour in down town Auburn though.

I'm like, super passionate about tattoo art. It's probably one of the things I love most in life. The majority of the people I know in real life hate tattoos, but whatever it's their opinion not mine.

I wouldnt say that, they are pretty painful, so whether you wanna endure the pain or not is there choice.

A lot of people may not want a tattoo because of the pain. Remember that the pain is pretty intense (depending on where you get it and what you get) so I can understand where they're coming from. Also, some people feel as though they don't have anything meaningful enough to get permanently inked on their skin, which again is understandable. You don't wanna do anything you regret.
What I don't understand is the people who are prudes about tattoos. The narrow-minded people who assume that all tattoos are trashy just because they see a bunch of chavs with nasty cheap tribal tattoos or some other shit going all the way down their arms. I admit I'm really really fussy about what looks nice and what doesn't when it comes to tattoo art.
At the end of the day, tattoo on flesh is just like art on a canvas. I think these are beautifully done. (I want one similar to the first one in the future).

I probably won't want to be as heavily tattooed as these pics, but there's just proof that loads of tattoos look good on people.

I'm going to end up one big ball of ink within the next few years. I have been tattooed five times, but there are only three parts with ink. I add onto my tattoos.

I love ink, and it means something to me. I don't get tattoos for people to see, I don't get them for the attention that others get. I get them because I love the feeling, I love the art, and they are beautiful to me.
Not everyone is meant for ink, though.

I don't yet but I would love to get something simple on my left wrist. Prolly this:
http://alltattooideas.com/wp-content/gallery/wrist-tattoos/wrist-tattoo-pictures-2.jpg
I used to hate tattoos but I grew used to them because of my dad's tattoo which is a free-hand wolf on his shoulder by a brilliant tattoo artist. However, I don't think I could ever get something in colour. That to me seems almost unnatural... I like just the black (and prolly because I'm so pale, I like the contrast).

I think I may get "let no one insult you with impunity" in latin on my neck. I got the idea from a story called the cask of amontillado.

I would get a tattoo of this:

or this
http://inkarttattoos.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Tribal-White-Rabbit-Watch-Tattoo.jpg
Either on my upper back, or the back of my shoulder, maybe with the words:
"When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead" in pretty font.
It would be in memory of my bunny.

I think tattoos can be horrible and completely gorgeous, depending on the tattoo in question. Tattoos can't be generalized as trashy because that's just that, a generalization.
Personally, I can't stand Chinese characters as tattoos. My dad has one. Took it over his other idea which was a Celtic dragon band. They would have to have designed it and he'd have to come back in a couple weeks so he got the Chinese character instead. Ugh. It's nice-looking, but jeez, do I hate those tattoos. It's just that it's such a classic tattoo, it's boring. At least pick kanji or something instead of Chinese.
I like subtle tattoos generally. I mean, I wouldn't get a sleeve tattoo or anything like that. Especially considering that I'd like to pursue acting and it could possibly be detrimental to those aspirations. But on some people they look amazing. Really, I just think it's the thought behind the tattoo. If it has meaning, then it's already one step above the others. Not just "star pattern cause stars are pretty" or "this dragon looks cool." The look is important, but unless there's a significance, I really don't see the point.
But yeah, I love tattoos. The insight into someone's mind you get by what they have decided to have etched in their skin. It's intriguing.
Your tattoo is gorgeous. I love The Raven.
Thank you love. :) I'm a huge Poe fanatic. As you can imagine.
