View Full Version : A quick way to remove frost

I drive my car to school everyday, and I leave at about 7am. Sometimes I don't have the time to wait for the Defogger to defrost frost on my windshields. Even after I get it off, it then fogs up. What should I do to keep the fog and frost away in a fast and efficient way?

Well, this is not very efficiant, but, my mom and dad use their debit cards to wipe away the frost.

To get frost off I get a bucket of hot water, throw it on the windshield then wipe the water away. The only way to get rid of fog is to fiddle with the temperature controls.

Couldn't I just use an ice scraper in that case? lol

This stuff works great. I use it all the time in the winter. Quick and easy and you can get it just about anywhere. Sprayer the de-icer on the window and it melts the ice right away. You don't even need a scraper most of the time.

Go outside and start your car a good ten minutes before you leave. It only takes a second.

I prefer the Rain-X de-icer washer fluid, but it's all the same basically.
And works great for frost too.

The 10 minutes thing is what I don't want. Sometimes I have like 2 minutes to spare, and that's all, lol

what if it broke and they needed to use it, nothing more embarassing than shoping and you pay with card and find it does not work or has no money lol.
I would invest in a scraper lol.
OP
have you tried to heat the car up in advanced and turn the heating on inside and put the fan type thing pointing at the windows then its just a case of swiping your mirrors and you basiclly done

I just spray the windshield with my hose and wipe the ice off with a towel. I really don't recommend hot water though because it's very easy to crack the windshield if you use it.

THAT is the biggest mistake ever! If your windshield hasn't cracked from that action yet you're very lucky.
Hot water on the cold glass? It's ridiculous.
There are several ways.
1) Use Aquapel
2) Cool your car before leaving it
3) Start the engine 5-10 minutes before you're going to drive

My family has been doing that for as long as I can remember; we have never had to replace or fix a windshield. Its not boiling hot water, its warm enough that it'll get rid of frost. I understand that throwing water thats too hot to touch on it will crack it, but the water we use would barely be warm enough for a comfortable shower.

Ice scraper or something me and my dad figured out, warm salty water. then switch the windscreen wipers on. Works perfectly on our cars.

You should not use HOT water with the frost (chances are that you could crack the glass). Luke warm or cold. Put it on the glass and use your windsheild wipers. This works well enough for me (I have to do it every day).

very high chance of stressing the windshield which could cause 1 or both layers of it to crack and "spider web".
the trick to get rid of "fog" is to match the temperature on the other side of the window so you want your temperature controls to somewhat match the temperature outside

Stuff is amazing works the best and doesnt fog up like the regular washer fluid...
OR you could always cover your windshield with a blanket at night (also works good for snow or ice) rest a blanket (old sheet or thin 1 works the best) over your windshield and shut the edges in your front doors to keep it in place... the frost/snow/ice will be on the blanket you go out in the morning open the doors take the blanket off and your whole windshield is clear and ready to go another little tip if you dont have heated mirrors tie plastic shopping bags over your mirrors that will keep the frost/ice off them as well.

LET ME POINT THIS OUT: Is it hot water? No. Is it hot enough that it'll get rid of frost/ice quicker than a scraper? Hell yeah.

Read your original comment guy you said "bucket of HOT water" and just so you know the water doesnt have to be "hot" or "boiling" any sudden change of temperature on glass going from below freezing to above freezing quickly could cause glass to stress crack. Im not saying you cant do it just simply pointing out what could happen not that it will happen every time but you can do as you wish its your car not mine haha

I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the posts above. I have had a similar problem, and considering this year's winter will be extremely harsh, these tips will prove useful. So, thanks :D
I realize that this has nothing to do with the thread because it's not advice, but still, thanks :D
Most sincerely,
Robert.

To remove inside fog just set temperature as you wish, change the direction to the windshield, set AC on and 3\4 power

Get some sort of cover for your car or just something big enough for the windshield. Pull it off and off comes the snow and ice!
