Well if your Physician is recommending it then I would give it a try, but be careful, to much protein can be a little on the rough side at times. A dietitian or nutritionist might be able to help you also. Your school coach along with your health teacher could do the same, assuming they are actually knowledgeable in their subjects unlike the american ones here. If you need anything lemme know.

I know that most body builders whom want to put on weight do it with Protein shakes and protein bars, it's all about the carbs.

Eat as much protein as you can. In a healthy way though. Don't binge eat to gain weight.

I'll just do a little correcting.
Weight is gained with excess calories, it's that simple. I'm not going to recommend you count your calories, but just keep an eye out for the fat intake. Carbs are used as energy and partially contribute to weight when you are not active to burn the sugar it's broken down to. Basically, excess in calories > calories burned in a day = weight gain. A proper diet will aid in adequate muscle gain and minimal fat gain. If you're looking to get serious into building some mass, protein is a must. The rule of thumb used is 1 gram of protein for every pound you weigh. Just be aware, that too much protein is hard on the kidneys.
