I drive a 2012 Ford Fiesta SES. And it was no handout, I bought it myself. My friends love it. They say I have the nicest car in school, and it's for sure the newest.

Yeah, there's nothing like driving a new car. I drive my dad's 2011 Charger every now and then; not allowed to drive it to school though, my parents don't trust all the other retarded drivers there not to hit it. And I completely understand...

I don't want a brand new car yet (don't get me wrong, but...). I'd rather have a car that if I scratch it, it doesn't matter.
I am going to buy a brand new car when I get more experience.

My family just bought a 2012 Honda CR-V Special Edition (literally yesterday). White on black. Looks surprisingly good, more tech than I thought, great visibility (then again my car has 0 visibility) and pretty fun to drive.

I recnetly had a brand new 2011 vaxhaull/opel astra SRI whilst my car got fixed and I loved it, was such a nice car however it was best suited to motoway driving. You felt so distant from the controles, you had not idea where the wheels were pointing, no feel for throttle or brake response. I prefer my 2001 MG ZR and my 1998 classic mini cooper.
Both give you so much feedback from the controles and with no ABS, Traction or Stability I am in controle. They only have small engines but they go through the corners like a train on rails, means you can keep the speed up and sneak up on slower drivers and overtake them :D
The MINI

The MG
It looks a little different from this now, it has lost the Red club badge on the front, now has MG sideskirts and MG 17" straight style alloy wheels instead of the 16" it was riding on oh and a shark fin ariel on the back :D

I don't have my license yet, but I drive my parents cars. Mainly my mums '09 M3 and dads '11 Silverado. Coincidently I prefer driving our 06 STi (more of a challenge with the clutch being a heavy duty aftermarket clutch). Admittedly the M3 is more refined. The oldest car I've driven is a friends Holden Torana A9X and it was awesome to drive too. When I say drive, I mean up and down our driveway :/ but hey, whatever I can get.
I'd say depending on what you drive, an older car can be better even than a newer model car. Unfortunately, to have the nicest car at my school, a Fiesta won't cut it :/

They also have a '09 A6 which is off limits for me till I turn 24 since it's well over the legal HP limit for Croatia...

I had to work blimmin' hard for mine. Work helped me to get it too as it makes my own transport a heck of a lot easier.
I bought a one-year-old demonstrator, so it's like new but I saved quite a lot.

lexus 2011 es that's my moms, but i rarely drive it. I can drive it on the weekends, but law is I'm not allowed to non family members in the car with me, so it's about useless. Nice car, but don't care one way or the other. It looks like so many other cars, nothing special about it. I do like the cars above poster mentioned, like mini cooper, and monte carlo, they have definite style and aren't just a smushed half bubble like most cars are.

I could never afford a new car (prefer big wngines and high spec without the 'new' price tag personally) and it wouldn't be practical as I change car too much (soon to be 6 cars in under 3 years).
Plus its great cos I don't give a crap if anyone dents it in car parks, or I scuff an alloy or whatever..........barely ever wash it either. I miss my last one though, used to look after that one really well and wsh it twice a week, I just couldn't afford the fuel for a big petrol engine any more (fuels much more expensive in the UK than the US lol)....so I've currently got a diesel golf.......mk4, 2001, GT TDI spec.....with nearly 140,000 miles haha!!!!

January 7th, 2012, 03:38 PM
Haha :) I'd never have considered new, I actually walked in to look at a second-hand (4-year old) GTI MkV and a 2006 Audi A3. Caught my eyes on this one though, it was an ex service fleet going that was being retired, but was the newest of the lot at three months and barely 1000km.
Engine was a bit on the weak side but tbh, I can push it along as quick as almost anyone on the roads (bar the odd wreckminded). I baby it like anything though.
Fuel economy wise is great. I'll say I take only the minimum of fuel conservation techniques (aka not dragging between the lights) and still return a good 5L/100km with some highway in there, or 50-55mpg in your speak :)
jimmyboy92
January 7th, 2012, 04:22 PM
Yeah new petrols are getting better on fuel economy and 55mpg is good for a petrol!!
Plus if you can afford a new'un you might as well get it! :D

Yeah. It's thought me to really take care of it as well. I see friends jumping at the cheapest things they can find and end up thrashing it. I mean, I push mine to the limits but wouldn't go out of my way.. and washing, that's an ass and anyone in New Zealand will know how shitty our roads get :P
55 is with a good mix of highway though, which my work demands :)

Not sure if you know much about English weather and roads but literally as soon as the car is clean....one short journey makes it dirty again!

Well, at least with the money you save on gas you can afford to pay when the battery pack goes in 5 years! Electric cars are not the future.

They are.........but not ones like the GWiz or volt!
Ones like the tesla roadster are gonna be the future imo. Or the hydrogen fuel cell cars such as the Honda Clarity.

The Honda Clarity. Now that is the future. Electric cars are not. The technology at least at this point is not there. When you can recharge a battery in the same amount of time it takes to fill a gas tank, then I'll consider it.

I go to a school very similar to this. But the truth is, the kids that are driving the new BMW's and Mercedes parents are also probably struggling to pay minimum payments on their credit cards. I've never seen a Maserati at my school though ha.

Oh I totally agree, I wouldn't want one either!! I drive a lot of miles (atleast 300 a week) so I go through a lot of fuel and electric cars just wouldn't work for me at all in reality.
But I still think a lot of people will buy the electric ones, specailly people in town that rarely drive.
Not sure if I'd want a clarity either if I'm honest, I mean I like the technology and I actually find it really interesting researching these modern technologies in college.......BUT I still think I'd prefer a petrol, the noise, the smell, the revs....mmmmmm.
God I hate driving a diesel haha!

You obviously haven't driven very many cars :) The Nissan Versa is awful. It's engine sounds like a bus, the transmission is awful and it's blandly made. It has a lot of space though.
