So, this is not a religious. heehaws, get it, i said my lord.
So, apparently, some school in America is spending like 70m dollars on diversity, or making the schools less... for lack of a better phrase... LESS black, and LESS white.
Hmm, and you know who is complaining? The whites. The white people are crying because it "hurts black people's feelings." Well you know what? My friends who are black don't even care that they are two of the only 4 black people in our school. So really, white people have really taken racism to the next level. I can't even say "I don't like Will Smith" without people calling me racist. (I love Will Smith, by the way, just using him as an example.) AND
ANOTHER THING.
If everyone is gonna make rules and laws that integrate whites and blacks, why are people not complaining for the Hispanics?

Anyway, post what you guys think, and if you are a minority, please say if you even really care.

Pick one, or make them all relate to each other. I don't see how any of these relate into one cohesive debateable topic.

Here, racism. Is it taken too far?
AllThatYouDreamed
November 8th, 2011, 04:42 PM
No, political correctness is. I can't call a black guy black without being called racist. (I can be racist, but that's NOT an example of it), I can't call a Chinese person Chinese without being told I'm stereotyping all Asians even if I just reconized them speaking Chinese.
Diversity is natural, if you're blowing money to "encourage" it, it's no longer diversity. People go where they like.

Is it taken too far?
We've come a long way these past 50 years, so many things have changed including mindsets, majority opinion, political correctness and what have you. Most people now realise how backward of us it was to discriminate against a particular race and are now taking it way too seriously, even though, it's not that big an issue any more. I think they're still living in the past in so far as they treat it like it happens more than the actuality, and because they're encouraging racial awareness to a high extent we're more wary and paranoid of it than we should be.
Honestly, the best thing to do with racism is to just ignore it. I can't see an entire generation or nation being blindfolded again with those kinds of ideals, at least not America or most of the Western-world.

Ritardando (italian) means "delaying" or "slowing" and is a musical term to denote a piece/section is slowing in tempo.
Which itself is derived from retardre (latin) which can be translated to "to hold back" or "to slow down"
Root words don't change cultural connotations though.
Would you argue "nigger" is offensive? [Yes. I said it. It's still just a word, and it's being used on context. Get over it.]
By your logic it's not, as it's direct from niger (latin) meaning black.

I go to an international school which means we have Papua new guineans, Caucasians from Scotland, Australia, Britain, we have Africans, Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, Israelis, Americans, blabla. It's a pretty multi-cultural school.
The Caucasians mainly stick with the Caucasians. The "blacks" mix with everyone. Not meaning to be racist here, but the "whites" tend to believe they're better than the Asians, blacks and everyone else. I'm not saying this is all of them, since 2 friends of mine are besties and one's a blonde blue eyed Aussie and the other's dark Maldivian. They're both awesome and smart and just, nice.
I think a lot of Caucasians still feel that they are superior. Apparently they look better. But I guess it's partially due to the fact that most Asians focus more on academics than popularity. And the blacks just don't give much of a damn.
Then again, we have groups with all mixed races. Ah, I don't know what I'm getting at. Right. All races can co-exist perfectly fine as long as we don't tell them they're like this this this and make them act as how they think they should.
We don't fight or anything. In fact, we're always cracking up light hearted racist jokes. No one gets offended. My best friend is Papua new Guinean and she's really sporty. We just kinda compliment each other, you know? I think a lot of kids just act like how society expects them to.
One of the girls in my school is black and she was adopted by a White family. Her best friend is Asian. All the parents of the students are friends and they get along fine. But people just tend to be more comfortable around what they're familiar with.
Your skin tone isn't who or all you are.

This. This was something I should've mentioned too. Saying something racist does not make you a racist, I could well say 'spick' 'gook' 'nigger' and 'paki' all the time, it doesn't make me any more racist than I am, which.. I'm not. Especially when these words are said out of context.
I personally don't even mind white kids calling me 'Paki'. It's really just a word at the end of the day, I can't be bothered to dig into its history and why it's supposed to be offensive when I can just let it bounce off me.

Seeing as all the black people in my school are -not- american, they're either African african, papua new guinean or some other place. How do you know they're african american? Why -are- they called african americans? It's the -United- States of America. You can't have unity when you refer to them as -african- americans instead of just americans.
EDIT: Okay. "African american" refers to a racial minority in the United states with sub-saharan african ancestry. But, "black" is a much more general term. Plus, it's such a mouthful. Waste of time spending an extra second pronouncing all those syllables.
My bestie and I call each other black and yellow -all- the time. My black friends call each other and us, niggers.
The only people who really give a damn are people who -aren't- black.
"Black people" is by far the most common way of referring to black people and is generally accepted by most. I've yet to run into a black person that didn't want to be called black.
So true. Every black person I've met so far has been more than happy with being called black. It's not like they hate their skin tone.
They're not -that- sensitive.
Why is being called black an insult? What do you wanna refer to them as? Brown? Dark skinned ones? African oceanic members of society? Oh oh oh oh!
FUZZY WUZZY ANGELS :D It's a loving term used by Aussies to refer to the papua new guinean military warrior helpers. Wooooo~

The film "Roots" really started it all. Ever since then, there's been numerous films promoting African American pride. Hell, there was one about two years ago about an all black swimming team. But they all have their roots in "Roots", which is honestly a very good and historically accurate film about slavery in the United States. But really, all the things you might hear a white person say about a black person is usually a big load. They have no right in the first place to say how a black person feels about something. In a sense, it's racism, but not clearly blatant racism.

Ask any black Africans. They'll lolololol at dem so-called "African" Americans. Truth is they haven't been anywhere near Africa or its culture for hundreds of years. They're black Americans. There's nothing more to it.
And what are white South Africans with American citizenship? Nothing? White South Africans with American citizenship are actually quite a bit more "African" than "African Americans". So ironic.
What you're saying amounts to saying a "Québécois" can only be French-Canadian. Which is not true.

We're the same race as them.
That would hold if there weren't hundreds if not thousands of different ethnicities within Africa. Race isn't just skin color.
Culture travels.
Yeah, it also evolves. Black Americans haven't been in contact with Africa for centuries. It's not like I'm not in the same boat. Call any Québécois a "canadien-français" and it's a sure way to get beat up. Like it or not, black culture today has nothing to do with the culture of Africa's myriad of different tribes, just like Quebec's culture has not much to do with mainland France (except that we kept the language ; +1 for us).
There's much more to it. What do you think "black" stands for?
Skin color.
So by your definition, a Maghrebi isn't an African American? But he comes from a region in Africa. Hence why this term is so stupid.
You're confusing race with citizenship again.
You seem to think culture is some static thing again. White South Africans have also been there for centuries. They have nowhere but Africa to call home. They're as African as the original inhabitants around them. I suppose I'm not Canadian because I'm not Native? Come on now.

That would hold if there weren't hundreds if not thousands of different ethnicities within Africa.
What about asia? Or any other continent? Those are made up of several ethnicities too. It holds because we're both black. If you say the black race doesn't exist because it's made up of too many ethnicities then what about the other races? You'd run into the same problem. And if it's not a race then why did you use the term?
Race isn't just skin color.
Black isn't just a skin color either.
Yeah, it also evolves. Black Americans haven't been in contact with Africa for centuries. It's not like I'm not in the same boat. Call any Québécois a "canadien-français" and it's a sure way to get beat up. Every culture is related to previous cultures that helped make it. That's what evolving means. You think Quebec is unrelated to the culture of the people that settled it? lolwut?
Skin color.
Again, black is more than just a skin color. I think you know this already judging by the way you've been using the word. I'm also sure you've noticed by now that our skin isn't actually black. If you really think that it's just skin then why would you say we're nothing more than "black americans" I thought you just said that race isn't just about color? There's dark skinned americans that aren't black and there's light skinned americans that are. You know it means more than that.
So by your definition, a Maghrebi isn't an African American? But he comes from a region in Africa. Hence why this term is so stupid.
That isn't my definition.
You seem to think culture is some static thing again.
I could say the same to you.
White South Africans have also been there for centuries. They have nowhere but Africa to call home. They're as African as the original inhabitants around them.
Fair enough.
I suppose I'm not Canadian because I'm not Native? Come on now.
You're Canadian because you live in a 144 year old country called Canada.
