I know it's not super important, but this happened at my building, so I feel it's more significant :P

Cash, guns, a bulletproof vest and plenty of drugs were seized by Gatineau police early Saturday after they responded to a domestic dispute in their city's downtown.
Police said they were called to 110 rue Dollard des Ormeaux around 3:00 a.m. Saturday, where they arrested a 23-year-old male and a 19-year-old female.
They said they seized three pistols, a revolver, an automatic UZI with silencer, a military assault rifle, ammunition, a bulletproof vest and $48,000 cash.
In terms of drugs they said they found six grams of marijuana, two and a half kilograms of cocaine and 7,000 oxycodone pills.
Police said the pair will appear in Gatineau court on Monday.

Not after you assault an officer, no

i know what she's referencing.
In the US, if you don't have a warrant, you can't seize something, no matter how blatantly illegal it is. (I think cars are an exception)

Actually, you can. It just has to be in plain sight, or on the person of someone arrested.

Wrong again. Plain sight means visable from outside the home/building.
I.E. if you found a shitton of crack in a bedroom sitting there while you had a warrant for CP (which means bedroom would be a reasonable place to look.*), you couldn't seize it because you didn't have a warrant and that's not "plain sight"
Taking government gives you weird fun facts...
*however, looking for a stolen piano in a fridge is stupid, and if you did find something else it'ed be thrown out w/o thought because you were searcing well beyond the terms of the warrant
Edit: "...?" is not a reason to negrep. Srsly.

No, but if you arrest someone inside their own home you can seize anything that's in plain sight. So if I have a warrant to search your home for pot, search, find it and a shit load of guns and ammo all I have to do is arrest you in the same room as the guns and I can seize them.
