Lucidia sits at the table, watching her mother with her heavy metal knife, chopping vegetables. If she only knew. Bzzt Bzzt Bzzt her mother blends the fruits, thick sharp blades of the blender slapping against the substance, slicing it into mush. If she only knew. Shhh. The blue flame of the stove sets alight, and the fleshy meat bubbles in the heat as her mother stirs. If she only knew. Squish. The cookie-cutter slices into her sandwich, cutting through the hot layers of meat and tomato, her mothers fingers wound tightly around the handle. If she only knew. Lucidia eats in silence, her food satisfying, then she returns to her bedroom.
Slice slice slice goes the thin metal knife in her hand. Bzzt Bzzt Bzzt screams the razor, sending to the floor her hair. Shh. Hisses the lighter, melting pain into her flesh. Squish. The teardrop hits the metal basin, mixing with her sorrow- red against the tray. Lucidia eats in silence, feeding off her release. Another day, another dinner, until then her heart at ease.
