Why is it that if you are 18 and have sex with someone only a year or 2 younger, you can get charged with rape and have to register as a sex offender? That is absolute bull shit. And in my state, if you get a blowjob from a girl under 18, you can get charged with statutory rape, which has a minimum sentence of 25 years. I just don't think these laws are fair and should be more lenient unless actual rape was involved.

He shouldn't yes, but the law is more to protect the minors in these cases. As much as I disagree with this law. I'm gonna say, I disagree with it a year or two younger, but once you're 18 and going after 14 year olds and younger, that's when it should kick in
I believe a few states, such as PA have a clause about "Within 3 years of age or at the age of consent."

The law is made to protect minors. I disagree with your statement. Before the age of majority, the law considers minors do not have the ability to make a sound and informed judgement about giving consent to sex. So therefore you should wait to have sex till after the person reaches 16 (or 18 in some countries)

In Canada age of consent is 16, but lets say it was sex with a 14 year old, I know the law states a 2year difference is still ok but more of a difference and I believe it's up to the parents of the supposed victim.
But judges here don't get elected, they are appointed by I believe the premier or the attorney general. Most judges are good like with any authority most are good some are bad. Most judges I've followed can empathize with the "victims" and if the victim is OK but parents aren't than alot of the time it is still out of the parents hands. I think at age 14 people know what they want to do, I know I did.

I believe that Formido is correct. The within 3 (and I think sometimes 2) year exception makes sense. It prevents a 19 year old from being prosecuted for having sex with a 16 year old (assuming the age of consent is 17). They could have been dating in HS when she was a 14 year old freshman and he was a 17 year old senior. He shouldn't have to suffer as a sex offender if that was the case.
But frankly, I think the age of consent should be about 14 or 15, not 16 or 17 as it is in most places. (It is 15 in some places, though). By 14 or 15 most girls have had sex ed, know the risks, know how to protect themselves, and most of all, many want sex. If they want to sleep with a 28 year old, they should be able to. It is their body and their choice. Regulating their choice of who they sleep with is essentially saying that they don't "own" their body and can make the choice of what to do with it.
We definitely need to protect girls under 14, but other than that, I think 14-15 for age of consent makes sense.

OH! also I forgot, more bullshit from the sex offender crimes
A guy was drunk one night and walked out into his backyard and pissed on his tree, well a neighbours kid saw and now he's on the sex offender registry.
I think the registry is very dangerous because the government is posting people's information.
I think a huge chunk of the registry is on there for reasons not needed.
Also sex offender registry just like when a dumbass cop fills out a "gang card" it's near impossible to appeal.

Atleast in California, chances are that the DA will not prosecute you for having sex if you aren't too much older then the person. We don't have a 2 year/3 year official rule, but, it's pretty much the unspoken rule. The law is designed to protect minors, for example, if an 18 year old had sex with a 13 or 14 year old, chances are that they will be prosecuted. But if an 18 year and 16 year old had sex, chances are, they won't.
