How do u tell if your friend likes someone?

My friend who i have known for as long as i can remember said something the other week. This is the reason i ask...

When i was talking to the girl i like, he whispered something to my other mate. My other mate told me that he said ( i like the person i like.. Make sense). I denied it of course. At the time i thought he was only joking because he is that kind of guy. About a week later i see her and we exchange smiles and hi's. He said very quietly "You want her". Again i thought he was joking. I denied it again by saying the classic "we are just friends", but then he said "i can tell". I asked him how he can tell, but he only answered "it's just too obvious". I still denied the whole thing in fear of it being spread :P

I just want to know, how you can tell if your friend likes someone?

Personally I think everyone has tells and after you've known them long enough and well enough you begin to pick up on them. He can probably tell by how you behave around her.

The classic line is probably the big give away now. :D

Casual as you can get around her mate. not much different to how i normally act, but i wouldn't know what he see's because i don't see myself from the outside, so he might see something different. None of my other friends have mentioned it, so i don't know.

I have never figured with my mates liking someone. I tend to get told these things, so i don't know how they can tell.

What's bothering me, is that he didn't even know we knew each other until that time he whispered to my mate i don't think. Weird huh
