Look at your eyes
Your youth and your soul
Look at that smile
Your eyes'd flash blue against black coal
Look at your hair,
Soft flowing brown
Look at your nose
Never may you frown
Oh, can you wait
To be older and go
To all the college parties
And a broadway show?
Oh can you wait,
Maybe?
Till you find your love
And have your own baby
Your life is reversing
Almost as a flashback
You cry like a baby
Your eyes droop like a sack
Your once luscious hair
Is falling to the floor
But nobody cares
As you rot to your core.
Your dreams of your life filled like a cup
Are clouded by your worry
That maybe you were growing up
In too much of a hurry
Your eyes are faded, cracked like foil
Your mother frets
Your classmates toil
But we get the call
You'll be okay
But with that in hand
A new day
Is a new day
And on that day we dress to mourn
A life that was given
A life that was sworn
Our tears are your drink
Our sorrow your snack
And you watch us from the sky
Our party in black
Someway, somehow
You are looking down
And I see your pretty angel face
Whom never lived to frown
I was crying as I wrote this. My friend Ashley Anderson passed away from Leukemia at the age of 10. She was the most excitable, kind person I ever met.
