watch his eyes, when he thinks no one's watching, watch where his eyes go. i swear if my friends watched my eyes in class they'd have realized i liked guys a long time ago

I've never been good at it also, unless they're stereotypical. I'm much better at guessing whether a girl is lesbian or not, but even then, strangely, my "gaydar" isn't really great.
My way has always been somehow getting homosexuality into the conversation, and see how they react. Bring up anything really, like talk about a GSA forming in your school, Don't Ask, Don't Tell, allowing gay marriage, make up an imaginary friend who came out to you. Find some way to make it the topic. Then you at least can figure out his views on it. Of course, it isn't foolproof. The only foolproof way is asking him, or seeing him dating another guy. But at least if you get his views, you can (hopefully, as long as he's not lying) then possibly come out to him, showing him that you are game at least.

Exactly. Or an even more obvious "tell" is watch how his head turns when a cute guy comes into his line of sight.

If my classmates watched my eyes, they'd realize I'm straight a long time ago :P
This may be the best tip... watch where eyes lead. No straight man is checking out another guys package. VERY unlikely.
Everything else is out (pun) because stereotypes are dead. They really are. Views on civil rights are just views, not ONLY gay people support them or the movement would be dead.

yeah i mean everyone focuses on the stereotypes but other than that there are few people that can truly hide their sexuality from the entire race of homo sapiens (people)

Honestly you can tell if they're stereotypical and if you pick up on that really quickly. If not, just ask them if they're dating anyone and such. It usually leads to that and doesn't sound rude.

Wow, a pretty serious question that I don't quite know how I feel about it. But some of the answers are a bit worrisome. I mean by use of some of these methods, the potential for misunderstanding, mis-interpretation, and serious hurt feelings appear to be huge. For example, if teen A thinks teen B may be gay and uses the "watch his eyes" technique, what's to prevent teen C, who isn't in on the suspicion but also believes " watching a guys eyes to see where he's looking" will give you a hint, what prevents C from noticing that teen A is "watching" teen B closely? Wouldn't this be evidence that A is possibly gay.
It's more incredible to me when I realize that it is virtually impossible to be in a shower where there's more than one teenage boy and not one set of eyes sneaks a peek (or openly stares) at the southern regions of other dudes in the shower. If this were an indication of being gay, we guys, in all age groups by the way, are guilty as charged.
I suppose there are logical reasons for wanting to know if another dude is gay, I personally have never cared one way or another, but I do hope we're very careful in what ways we "investigate" and even more careful with any conclusions we jump to.
