Well everyone I don't know if you've heard but the gun registry is now going to be scrapped in Canada. Our majority conservative government has more power and now they are also planning to destroy the information so that a future government can't start up the program again.

I want to know your thoughts on this.

Here's my 2 cents:

I think that the gun registry is both good and bad. Good how it tells officers if a home or owner of a car has a gun in his name but it's bad as it gives false ideas and if an officer looks up a house and says that there are no guns sometimes they will assume no guns despite violence against officers and shootings in the drug trade are done almost always with illegal weapons so a registry wouldn't even tell an officer that there are unregistered weapons inside.

Good. Screw gun registries.

Police should always assume a suspect is a threat. If that is to mean that they should assume a suspect is always armed and act accordingly then so be it.

The only use of the gun registry was knowing if there were guns in a house. Unless somebody is particularly braindead, nobody is going to commit a crime with a registered weapon.

We could've saved billions by teaching police officers to always assume guns are involved.

There are plenty of things to dislike about the conservative majority in Canada (I'm about as far from conservative as it gets), but I don't think this is one of them.

the only bad thing i can see from this is if a person gets murdered and they could use a gun registry to help determine who did it... thats the only bad thing i can see happening but this is in canada and everyone knows canadians dont kill people so it should be ok.

Gun rights advocates have their eyes fixed on Canada, reports BBC News. Now, Canada set to abolish national long-gun registry (http://www.newsytype.com/13132-canada-abolish-gun-registry/). Canada's Conservative government has introduced regulation before Parliament that would demolish Canada's gun registry. Particularly, the country's long-gun registry, which provides coverage for shotguns and rifles, would be eliminated. Abolishing Canada’s long-gun registry will destroy all records kept on rifle and shotgun owners. Criminal background checks and gun safety courses will still be required, however.
