View Full Version : Does it really matter?

So, I've just been wondering if having a high GPA all throughout high school really matters in the long run.

I've heard lots of stories of people who went until Senior year with horrible grades then finally started trying and doing better and still getting accepted into college. There's also people who drop out and still make a good living in acting/music etc. I'm just getting tired of putting effort into school. I'm tired of it. I haven't even been trying to get good grades, I just never fail classes (no D's or F's I mean) but I'm freakin' out.

Does it really matter as much as people say it does?

Well, my brother has failed his share of classes, and is now going to college to become (ironically enough) a teacher. It certainly doesn't hurt, though.

In my opinion, if you have a high GPA...well you might have a better chance to get into a college.

I believe grades are important, but so are the activities you participate in. My teacher always tells me that it's better to have a B/C average with loads of events (like band contests, art awards, trophies, volunteer work, ect) than be a straight A student who's done nothing.

My mom is a teacher and I talked with her about this too. So, what most colleges are looking for is whether or not you are consistent with your grades. A high GPA is not everything. Although, having a high GPA may be a good thing because it shows that you are at least trying. If you have a low GPA or low grades, it may look bad on your part. The SAT score is also looked at by the colleges, but don't get upset if you have a lower SAT score. The most important thing is to try your best and don't give up! Those drop outs may have got lucky, but don't sell yourself short of a high school diploma.
