So as you may or may not know our elections have a high amount of faithless voters, basically they vote based on race, gender, religion (big factor), popularity (like obama), or they just vote how their friends are voting

What would you guys think of this idea for an election? We go blind in terms of candidates. you don't know weather candidates are Black or white, young or old, man or woman, fat or healthy, you just know their views and plans of action for the government

Other question is do you think that this system could make the faithless voters pay attention to the actual policies and such?

Absolutely not. Each person has a right to vote, however they choose too. If race is a factor, then, it is and we shouldn't get involved.

All that would happen is you'd rile up the conspiracy theorists and get them going into a hoopla about shadow governments and the Illuminati/New World Order. You can't force people to look past superficial things. It's the superficial things that make us human.

the main issue with this is that it's choosing how people should choose their leaders and deciding for them what they should be judging their leaders on, which in itself is not democracy

The only thing you'd have to go on is what they say they would do if elected. But a lot of the time, what they say will happen, doesn't, so how is it a good idea for the only thing we know about them to be at least partly wrong?

It would most definitely make the votes a lot more about their campaign then what they look like, but for this to ever happen is more or less a pipe dream.

of course not we might get a mexican president... i mean um... no people should be allowed to choose based on what they want to base their votes

I for one think this is a great idea, even if it'll never be implemented.

Oh please. The simple fact of the mater is that superficial aspects of a candidate have absolutely nothing to do with how well they'll do their job. Making those aspects a secret until after elections could easily lead to better leaders being elected.

Race isn't a legitimate issue, and this wouldn't compromise the principals of democracy.

Nice. But another questions is what about the primaries? because in reality we know who is going to be running months before the election due to the primaries and who is the leader of the party in other systems, so would the executives of the republican/democrat party choose who best fits the party's ideals?

Well primaries could be handled the same way as the election. In this hypothetical if it works for the election it would work for primaries.

This would never be feasible, but it's a fun idea nonetheless. It can be argued that this would add weight to the relevant and campaign-specific elements of an individual's candidacy, rather than the superficial flaws that the populous tends to dwell on and more often than not takes into account when placing their vote.

Maybe something like this would work on a game show, but like the others have said, it isn't in the spirit of a true democracy.

Well i do agree by doing this (chosing what friends chose, race, age, popularity) we contruct a biased result and if were not careful you never know who will win the election
