Ok I have a question why is it that the Republicans are fighting over the primary spot which I understand but why is it that Obama is just like "I wanna go for reelection" and now noone can challenge him hes automatically the Democrat nominee?

Thats how I understand it,would appreciate an educated American explaining it to me

sittting presidents are not exempt from needing to win a nomination and are totally subject to primary challenges. however, the reality is that it is essentially impossible to be a more compelling primary candidate than a person who can point to having won the last presidential election.

there have been a few historical primary challenges to incumbent presidents. reagan in 76, buchanan in 92, for example. none successful, though, which is why nobody bothers. what's the point of wasting time and money?

That makes sense, it reality Bush didn't get so bad of approval ratings until his 2nd term, so maybe he would've been challenged had his ratings plummeted in '02 or '03
