Good on you buddy for think of joining the services, its a great and admirable career path to follow. Im not sure what country your from, so entry levels (medical, education, age; etc) differ from country to country.

In the military there are many specific jobs that you can do, and the majority of army jobs are in non-combat roles. I would suggest you visit the army's website from where your from and have a look around, and see what grabs your interest. Some of the jobs include; Infantry, Artillery, Intelligence, Medics, Signals, Sappers (Engineers) - there are many, many jobs to choose from in the army, and a few are bound to match what you want to do.

I just must stress that although there is a risk of danger, the risk of becoming injured during combat is much smaller then you think it is. Combat believe it or not here in Australia is not the leading cause of injury/death of military personnel on duty, but rather Vehicle Accidents. Depending on what job you pick, you may not ever see combat, due to your position, or conflicts coming to a close before enlisting. The military is nothing like COD, and I mean NOTHING like COD. Its all based around teamwork, loyalty, discipline, mateship, etc.

Its an extraordinary career and you will experience and see places that many people will not through travel etc.

If you need any advice, information or anything feel free to contact me or ask it here. I've been in the Military Cadets for a few years and am happy to lend you a hand.

Hope this helped :D

I think joining the military at this point in time is a pathetic way to waste your life, since you're really not defending anything besides the pocketbooks of warmongering neo-conservatives and putting your life on the line for ridiculous missions that can't be accomplished. Good luck finding a job once you come home from tours as well, and be prepared for the psychological repercussions of coming home to civilian life after being in a warzone. As I've studied psychology, I can tell you PTSD is an absolutely haunting ordeal that may possibly never leave you.
