I just got a Tony Hawk HukJam Series skateboard, and it feels pretty good, light weight, strong and decent wheels and trucks. It was only $30. Is this actually a good board, or will I need to be saving up for a World Industries kit?

Honestly those are on the lower end quality wise. But it's not a huge deal, especially if you're just starting. If you expect a lot of use out of your skateboards then yeah you should probably plan ahead and start saving up for another set-up. A "good" set up can be pricey though (100-150$), so if you're just cruisin' right now then don't rush. But if you're already landing tricks and jumping off shit then expect your board to wear down or break quite fast. If you're gonna save up I wouldn't get a World Industries kit tbh,...actually I'd stay away from most pre-made kits from any company. I mean yeah, World Industries makes some decent decks but I'm sure the trucks and wheels they'd slap on it would be pretty cheap.
Seriously though, don't feel limited with what you have, it's not all about the board...
