Well, everything... it all happpens... dude. I really don't know. I've been trying for years. You can try a bunch of different ways, like posting it on youtube, and then telling peopel about it on omegle..

Play shows, the more you play the more fans you'll get and you'll build up a little following.

This, and get a facebook page so you can rack up listeners / inform people of coming shows / share uploaded videos.

Also don't be afraid to post about your band on your personal facebook, it'll direct people to the band's page.

be attractive
play music that the radio listeners enjoy currently on the radio
spam your shit on youtube
actually seriously never fucking sign to a record label and never play music for the sole purpose of getting discovered

The chance to get "discovered" is about the same as you suddenly growing a third leg. Just think about it, what makes you any more special than all the other tweens/teens in the world?
So there are two ways to get "discovered".
1. Be somehow different. Not likely to get you famous or rich.
2. Have rich parents who can pay for a record deal and hope that people like it (can you say Friday?). Still not likely to get you famous, and you'd have to be rich beforehand to do that.
So basically, it's a waste of time, unless your already rich. I know it sounds harsh, but life isn't nice either.

Do these three things, you'll do pretty well. Being signed to a record label isn't entirely bad. Most bands still get to be as creative as they want to be, depending on the label. If you're not having fun though, you're doing it wrong.

You know... gigs? If you aren't playing any gigs, I suggest you try your best to get to play some.

facebook and youtube are great to get a local base of fans, but at least half of the big-name bands out there right now got into the industry because of connections. Unless you know a guy, u might be out of luck :(

Call up any place that has local bands play on a semi-regular basis. That's what my friend and I are doing, more for fun.

Basically what everyone else has said. Make a facebook page, get gigs, put things on youtube. Also make friends with other bands in your local area. By doing this you can jump on their gigs as support acts. This is good because you're stealing their fans :P
You could also try recording a demo and sending it off to record companies, but this would have to be your own stuff and i'd recommend a proper studio recording and this can be pretty expensive.

1. Be as much as a rip off and not creative as possible while saying you're influenced by the beatles.
2. Verse Chorus Verse Chorus x2, also known as ABACABA form. You're not aloud to use any other form.
3. Don't try to be deep, because that's just fucking pretentious and mainstream has to be as bland and obvious as possible.
4. You'll have to learn to suck dick really well. I mean that in all ways.
If you're not getting any attractiveness or whatever by making horrible alternative rock, then I suggest do something controversial (Burning churches, heroin addictions, sue napster, et al)
If you play local shows make sure the band you're playing with isn't too experimental or your crowd probably won't like you.

Record labels are becoming a relic of the past and signing onto one will just restrict what you can do. You don't need a record label to distribute your music anymore- you can be your own distributer online. Try looking into sites like bandcamp.

My friend sent in a ton of demos to labels all across North America. Fueled By Ramen actually accepted her, but they thought she was too fat or something silly like that, to be on their label.
Note, that's the label that hosts bands such as Paramore and Fall Out Boy, you know, bands that try to appeal to teenagers and are against body image problems brought on by society. Lol, irony.

I can see Fueled by Ramen being that way. They are very based on what teens think. Patrick Stump (singer of FOB) used to get shit for being fat. If it wasn't for the fact that he was a few years into Fall Out Boy being with Fueled by Ramen, I can imagine they would have dropped him.
