One of my friends is on the football team and they have a big game coming up. He said their coach told them not to masturbate until after the game because it would make them weak. I'm wondering if other teams have a rule like that and if therre is any actual truth to that?

^ Exactly.
It's far fetched and not to mention kind of weird to have a coach tell you that...

The myth is that you get more TESTOSTERONE! (The most deadly substance known to man) or rather that you do not ''lose it'' by masturbating. Which is utter crap.
However there might be some truth to the fact that not being sexually satisfied for a long or seemingly long period of time can make people more easily frustrated and thus in a game of football it might be somewhat beneficial..
But in general Billy can still whack his Jimmy before the upcoming football game.

I have played almost all sports and the coach never said that but its kinda a rule no jo before a game, and it works for me.

I've gatta' say...
I wanted to test this and see my results and, albeit there's loads of variables that could've effected the outcome, I ran my cross country race better when I hadn't jacked off for 2 days then when I did the day before.
I also ran two separate half marathons, each a month apart, the first watching porn for a half hour before (and not "finishing off") and the second time without. I ran better the first time and other than the "fun time material", the rest of the variables were constant.
It's probably just all in my head but whenever I have a XC race, I make sure to keep something around a few hours before so I can run my best.
Oh, and with that said: I've never had a coach explicitly tell us this but I did have a coach tell our captains (guys our age and fellow classmates) to have "the talk" with us during our after-workout stretch the day before the race. The talk consisted of the captains telling us, "Alright guys, and I'm lookin' at you W* (name), when you're alone tonight and the only company you've got is your hand, think about winning and head to bed." A younger guy, around 14, didn't quite get it and asked what the hell he was talking about and our captains screamed, "NO JACKING OFF"

I've been playing football and baseball for 10 years and never had a coach tell us that. I strongly disagree with that.

I've never heard that. I play football, baseball, and wrestling. I always jerk off. Never been told that before that it makes you weaker. Weird.

I play hockey and to me that sounds like something one of my coaches would say more jokingly than completely serious.
I will say that for 2 years I jerked off before every single practice and a lot of games and it never made a huge difference from when I didn't. In fact I played a little better because I was more relaxed.

Yeah. Like everyone else has said, that's pretty weird. My tennis coach has never said anything like that. I doubt it even makes a difference, rather than maybe a psychological one.

The only thing i find wierd is the coach asking him not to mastubate ... It's too creepy lol

I feel like I'm more clear-headed after I relieve some pressure, so I actually make it a point to cum before competing. I guess if I played a sport where pure aggression was the only thing that mattered and didnt require any thinking, I wouldn't, because when it's been a while I can get pretty cranky and aggressive.

Yes because the coach of a HS football team, whos probably been coaching for years, and was once a teenage boy would never ever think his players jerk off.

Not masturbating for a few days would kill me when I'm changing in the locker room or showering or when I run in cross country, seeing some of the other girls run or other boys in their outfits...my boner would be seen from miles away.....I have to masturbate!

Yes, I believe your coach may have been referring to the protein in your body, actually. Apparently masturbation makes you loose a small amount of protein (Protein helps with muscles, muscle repair, and such)
The thing is.. The amount of protein you loose during masturbation can be gained back by eating like.. 1/4th a banana. Haha. So no need to listen to your coach about this.

Playing freshman and jv football I can see the testosterone idea but honest it helps me sleep after a nice orgasm so I do it to get a good nights rest and if I could-and I do wish i could- do it before a game I would as I feel great and I can stick any guy coming at me

I think what he might have been alluding to was the sexual tension one feels when they want to masturbate and cum but can't do it. if one were to be sexually frustrated, they would probably try to take it out on something indirectly. in this case, it would be the other opposing players. Now i'm not sure on that, but that's my theory on it.

It doesn't make you weaker. It's also weird that he mentioned it, and furthermore, he has no authority to tell someone what to do and not do with themselves.

Freshman year in XC a senior told us that, but that was because he did it the night before a league championship meet and his kidney failed the next day. I've actually gone the other way for some reason and made sure to do it the night before every race and it seems to be working great.

Actually, I've heard this before... our rugby coach would half-jokingly say this to us, and it was kinda an unwritten rule with the team that no j/o before a Saturday game. It might be complete bs, but then there might be something to it in that it makes us more tense and aggressive. What is true is that it made the Sat afternoon j/o sessions especially good!

Jacking off in an uncomfortable position can cause trouble for your muscles. Although normally it wouldn't. I play as a goalkeeper and I find jacking off normally to be kind of relaxing for the nerves. In fact shouldn't it make the wrists stronger? Unless of course you do it unconventionally.
