View Full Version : The silly little things that keep you alive.

Once, whilst discussing suicide with my therapist, she asked me if there was anything worth holding onto. I said no, thinking that there was no one in my life worth sticking around for. I guess I figured that inanimate objects only had material value and while that could cheer me up, it wouldn't keep me alive. However, my therapist told me a story about another patient of hers that had made it through her own tough time.
What kept her going? Strawberries. Yes, strawberries. My therapist told me that when this girl really thought about the things she'd miss, she realised that she'd really miss the taste of strawberries. It seemed silly but I remembered that today while petting my cat. Suicide seemed like a really good idea this past week. I'm not saying it's gone but it made me think. While petting my cat, I thought, well I'd really miss my cat... but I'd also miss the feeling of being able to pet her fur and just hear her purr.
It seems ridiculous, I guess, but it really helped. So I suggest making a list of the silly things you think aren't important but you'd really miss if you weren't here anymore. Maybe you could look back at it when you're not feeling so great just as a reminder.
Here's mine:
petting my cat's fur and hearing her purr
alfredo pasta (I'm not even kidding, it's the best food ever)
sitting by my back window on a rainy day
(Yeah, it's a totally silly idea but I thought I'd share.)

I have no life. Do I care? Nope. Because my non-life is kept alive by these things. And I don't mind that.

I'm the same way. Medieval fantasy role-playing = <3. Damn, should have added that to my list.
It doesn't really matter if they seem lame or whatnot. They're your own reasons and if they're important to you, that's the main idea.

You're not the only one that's gone through a similar thought process :P I don't think people really think of this before they do anything. Just the simple small things in life that make you happy, they'd be gone too. The thing is you take them for granted, I don't think they'll be gone.
Anywa, good idea for a thread btw :) Just can't be bothered to write mine right now.. :P

Ah, to be honest, I have a lot to live for. Mostly because I create things to live for, I make myself do all sorts of stuff to find something I may like, as well as do what I don't feel like doing. It's all worth it in the end.
-Singing (God, I love singing. Before my eating disorders took over my life, singing was all I lived for.
-Helping people
-Creating art
-Photography (Capturing the beauty in things.)
-Durr, pretty much almost everyone I've met on VT. (The feeling may not be mutual but oh wellz.)
-Food (Haha, yeah, I love, love, love food now. Probably more than I should but, what the hell.)
-The chance that I may make a difference or be something great
-Travelling! (I really, really want to travel. See an aurora and schtuff!)
-Laughing. (I'll really, really, really miss laughing.)
-BRANDY. (Oh my effing god, Brandy. I absolutely love her. She's the first friend friend I've ever had in real life and I just don't know what I'd do or be doing without her. I love, love, love Brandy sooooo much.)
-Writing (Really will miss this. It's gotten me through so much.)
-Cracking stupid jokes (I'm not funny -at all- but I love trying, anyway.)
And uh...
-Voices (I absolutely adore gorgeous, pretty, adorable, wonderful voices. I mean, from people. I love hearing the Roberts, Tims, Sachal, Rawal, Ida, Charlie, Sean, Mike and what shiz talk. They have the -prettiest- voices. I could just eat their voices. Like, stick my tongue down their throats and EAT IT.)
That's a lot to live for! :)
EDIT: oh yeah, and hugs.

Traveling the world and meeting my distant relatives and friends/new friends
My dog
Special/Exclusive relationships I've built with certain individuals
I really can't think of any other ones right now. And the last one is really vague as it is. Sorry.
I'll update it when I think of more.

Yes, mine are as insignificant...as a peck of dust in space.
-music (sad ones, depressing ones, medieval ones, symphonic metal)
-anime/manga
-doodling and singing (Even if I am really bad at those, prolly gonna get 3 "X" before I begin)
-Forums, MMO, MMORPGs.
-Steak!
-Books
-Taking a bath
-Roller Coasters
simply because I haven't had a life.....I want to be alone, by the sea, by the terrace, by a green field. I just want to feel peace.
I have to be constantly addicted to something...I have to feel I belong to somewhere...
