I'm a cutter. I have been for over two years. The last time I cut was 10 days ago from when I'm writing this. Yeah that doesn't seem like a lot. But I promised myself, and my best friend, that those would be the last cuts intentionally put on my skin by my own hand. I threw away my razorblades this weekend. And even though I could just break apart another razor I use to shave with like I did before, that to myself is a symbol I'm done with cutting. I've promised myself I'm going to use healthier ways to cope when I get depressed and feel like I can't handle my emotions. I'm going to cry it out. I'm going to write poems. I'm going to draw. I'm going to call or text a friend or my boyfriend, someone that will make me happy. I'm going to surround myself with people who make me happy. I don't want to resort back to self-harm. If anyone has any other suggestions of healthy ways to handle sadness and depression that you have used that has helped, or things you do when sad, comment on this thread. I'd love to know.

I don't self harm, but there is one tip I tell anyone who is dealing with this.
Surround yourself with people you trust. They truly can understand what you are going through. They can help you. If you are with people, you're not alone, and you're not cutting. This is the best advice I can think of.
The only other thing is tot believe in yourself, Believe you are worth not harming yourself. Believe you are going to get out of this mess. You can.
And Congratulations on 10 days! This is amazing, it cane take someone months to accomplish this. Be proud of yourself.
Good Luck with everything!

Congratulations on 10 days! Hopefully I'll be there in a few! You're doing all the right things! Learning to properly deal with the emotions that we've cut away for so long is the hardest part! It may be rough, but you are definitely on the right track!
Another idea is the Butterfly Project. It didn't personally work for me, but I know it is a godsend for others. If you're not sure about what it is, just google it!
Good luck, my friend!

Paint. Draw. Or write. Post on here. When I am down, or feel like cutting, I paint.
Just distract yourself.
It's amazing that you have made it 10 days! Keep it going. :)

That's great. 10 days is definitely an accomplishment, as is throwing away your razors. Things like drawing, like reading, like writing a poem, that help distract you, are all great ideas. Personally, I listen to music and try to play a simple game that is repetitive to take my mind off of everything.
