Isn't it strange that an inch changes our entire lives?
Think of it. A border, between two countries. If you are born one inch right of the border, you are completely different from the person who is born one inch left of the border.
Your nationality, your view on politics, your religion, world's view on you, your race, your language...
One Inch...
Strange.

That is a really interesting topic, and I really don't think anyone can argue it.

Basically my thoughts, but why choose an inch over, say, a centimeter? Just curious if it's because of your culture that you chose the unit of measurement.

Not necessarily. In the SW USA, there is quite a bit of Mexican influence -- Thus the SW USA can act like a buffer zone. The border between USA and Mexico does not prevent Mexican culture from diffusing into the USA and vice versa. Now there is a tipping point for everything. One inch off of the sidewalk, you're dead. There are subtle tiny differences that initiate massive consequences. There's a book called "The Tipping Point" (I think that's the title). You should read it, it covers this exact idea that little changes can cause big things.

An inch, a second, a pound.
Everything counts. :3

I don't think the lines are that defined.

Well technically if two people are born an inch in opposing directions from a borderline, that's two inches making the difference lol :)

I wanted to use "centimeter" but I wanted to make the title shorter and the majority of this website is familiar with inch. If I were to write "centimeter", people would turn this place into a mosh pit and would start trolling: " Lol who gives a fuck about centimeter? Inch FTW "

Haha! You are indeed an intelligent girl.
|| Back to topic, well of course people who live in the center of the country differ from the people who live close to the border. For example, Germany's western border would have French influence, and vice versa. But still, it changes a lot

Exactly. It's unlikely to change much if you're only an inch away. At that distance, it would probably be counted as 'on the border'. Taking it a little less literally, though, let's say a mile (1.6 kilometres :P). While somewhere a mile from a border will still be heavily influenced culturally by the nearby country, anyone born in that location would have been considered born in that country, and would often be considered 'one of them'.

I don't think the lines are that defined.
Areas around the borders of Northern Ireland are much more Irish than British, people have mixed Northern Irish and Irish accents, they even accept Euro.
So I don't think you can define it as simply as you have, Cengiz.
