Saw another thread like this so I figured the title would reflect it.

Anyway, last night me and a friend went to a haunted hayride and were expecting some female friends to join us. After waiting an hour we learned that they weren't coming tonight. We went on with our night and just did the hayride and maze anyway and it turned out to be fun. While waiting for our ride home a group of girls came up to us and started talking. I didn't take it more than just passing the time with friendly conversation.

Their ride gets there and my friend shouts my name to this one girl who took a particular interest in me and she shouted back that she'd look me up on Facebook. So I'm like whatever I'll add her out of courtesy. She ends up adding me and within minutes after she requests my phone number. In the meantime I learn she's 14 and in the 8th grade. Myself? I'm 17 and a senior. I don't really know how not to give her my number without being rude. I mean we did have a friendly conversation at the hayride and I did accept her friend request so I just gave her my number. Figured I would just text her for a while and hopefully she loses interest and I can "lose her" for lack of a better word without having to hurt her.

We texted and I certainly wasn't trying to lead her on but she was getting flirty and I eventually just ended the convo with "i need to get to sleep" and so that was that.

I just don't know what to do. There's 4 grades and 3 years between us and don't get me wrong she's a nice person, but I don't know if I can carry that stigma around even if I wanted to. How do I make sure things don't get too personal without hurting her?

Thanks.

from this point i dont really think that there is a way to let her down without hurting her a little, but i think that you should do it as soo as possible before she begins to think that something could really happen with you two, she might be sad for a while but you dont want to lead her on any further. Just tell her that you thought she was really nice but the age difference was just too much. Good luck :)
