The reason I ask this, is because I dared a friend of mine to dye his hair highlighter green, and he followed through. In return, I shaved my legs.

I just read that hair grows back thicker after you shave, and now im worried imma be stuck with REALLY hairy legs.:what:
Can anyone confirm this?

It does grow back a little bit thicker and rougher, but not very noticeable. Use Men's NAIR next time if you're gonna do that :p

NO this isn't true at all!
Your hair follicles don't know they were trimmed, so why would they grow back any thicker than before. It is common myth.

Hi Portable,

That is just a legend, There hasn't been any scientific facts to back that up. People say that, but nothing to back it up. Don't stress it. A good way to see if you will have really hairy legs is to look at your brother(s) ( if you have any) or your dad. It is all genetics

Take it easy!

This has been discussed earlier in august, would requote what ive mentioned, with it you would get a clearer picture on how the myth of hair thickening comes about.

Shaving of hair does not make it get any thicker, as every strand of hair has its thin and thick ends.

As you shave your hair, you are likely exposing the blunt side of the hair, thus it tends to be coarse; biology 101.
What happens when all the coarse hair group together, it tends to give a perception that it tends to be thicker.

The number of hair follicles are a static number, and hair will only get less if you lose that follicle.

And yes, it would completely grow back unless you damage that follicle.

Yes, it does over time, which is how beards grow thicker and faster.

The natural thickness of hair and speed of hair, is entirely genetic.
Its just like a natural curl and natural hair colour.

It may be, but I normally didn't have curley hair until I grew it out over and over again and then it got curley. With my beard, it's naturally thick in my sideburn area, but now that I shave every two days, my beard has been growing back thicker and faster. It's called training your beard.

No. Just because you shave, doesn't mean it will be thicker the next time. It's just genetics.

I've shaved my body for swimming a few times, and I never really noticed the hair coming back thicker. Maybe it's different from guy to guy?
