Just got out-- Muammar Gaddafi, a well-hated autocratic leader of Libya--is dead. After his 41-year rule over Libya, Gaddafi has been shot. It has not been confirmed in the US yet, but soldiers have claimed to have seen his body. Celebration is taking place in the streets of Libya- the people finally have freedom. In fact, Gaddafi had ordered many of his people to be killed, bombed..shot. His people were living in poverty while he and his children lived in a palace- funded from his people's budgets. So...is he dead? We have yet to find out.

The Libyan television station Al-Ahrar reported on Thursday that revolutionary fighters have finally seized Sirte and in the process captured the long sought after Gaddafi.
Furthermore, a National Transitional Council official, Abdel Majid Mledgta, told Reuters that the former leader was captured and wounded in both legs early Thursday morning.
The official said, "He was also hit in his head. There was a lot of firing against his group and he died."
The report has yet to be independently confirmed. However, a plethora of reports have come out to say that the former Libyan leader is in fact dead.
A picture taken on a cell phone has also been released by the AFP in which the dead body looks strikingly similar to the former ruler.
However, a National Transitional Council military spokesman told CNN that reports of Gaddafi’s capture are only rumors.
The U.S. State Department has yet to confirm reports of Gaddafi's death.
Upon news of the announcement, the streets of Tripoli went into celebratory mode with horns blaring and shots of celebratory gunfire shot into the air.
In August some members of the Gaddafi family fled to Algeria while the strongman’s whereabouts remained unknown.
Gaddafi, who led Libya for 42 years, remained in hiding since rebel forces seized the capital of Tripoli and only emerged to call upon his loyalists to to take back the country from devils and traitors.
Rumors circulated about where the strongman could be with some suggesting that he could be as far away as Venezuela or as near by as Burkina Faso.
Gaddafi is wanted by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, for crimes against humanity. It was believed that after rebels captured Tripoli and were unable to find Gaddafi there, that he was hiding in his hometown of Sirte.
What is your outtake on this? I believe he had it coming.

Was just on my way to post this. Good news if it's true, but it's still unconfirmed. He had it coming, though I believe that he should have stood trial and answered for his crimes against humanity, rather than just have him be summarily executed.

Pictures of him dead have just been released. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-15389550
I don't celebrate the death of anyone but this means the start of a new future and a lot of hope for millions of people: that's something to be glad about

while I'm glad he's dead I really doubt it's the start for a 'good future'. All that happened was tribal warfare justified by the 'arab spring', guys.

I hope his death will bring peace finally to Libya, I don't condone murder but he didn't make his life easy for himself and frankly the world is better off without him

I think he was a bit of a mental. He supported terrorism, killed the people he ruled, and all in all, he raised his children to be crazy as well. When his daughter was hitting her child for being "bad" the maid said "don't hurt her!" and Gaddafi's daughter poured boiling water on her, then left her with no medical attention.

The past prolonging of his death was the delay of the inevitable.
Good riddance. He had, and has never had, a place in this world.
From his autocratic rule to his ridiculous projects, the great man project in particular, which has lead to soil degradation, soil salinisation, and soil dehydration in the entire country by systematically draining all the natural aquifers. He was a fool. Thankfully, we need not worry about him any longer.
As I said, good riddance.
Now there's one less remaining. We'll see where it ends.
Most sincerely,
Robert.

lol. Since when is it ever happily ever after for countries with such complicated political problems, such as Libya? Iraq became even more of a raging, wartorn cesspit after the fall of Saddam Hussein.
All that happens is that the old set of problems is exchanged for a new set, the status quo never really changes. Gadaffi only remained in power so long because he kept the West sweet, but when it all goes sour.. well, this is the result. We see it time and time again.

I'm gonna be a martyr he said, I'll fight to the last man he said...
Well, he should have accepted Venezuela's offer. People will remember him as a tyrant, not a martyr.

Kind of scary this is the world we live in, with sick people like this in charge of whole countries.

I found out from one of my classmates. she was on her phone and she said out loud that he was dead. I was shocked, and the next period (last period of the day), I checked the news and it was true.
I think he should have had a trial...

I feel like the way they killed him was awful. I heard they dragged him by his feet from a rope, then drove with the rope strapped to a car, then beat him, then shot him. Come on..... That seems too harsh to me..

Now this is a warcrime. They show footages of him alive, and then you see him bullet ridden in some industrial storage house.

I think the media have not reported the death of Gaddafi that well in the UK it been to be a little like glorifying and celebrating his death... Which is wrong. The thing to celebrate is the New fangled democracy and freedom of Libya; For now anyway.

Where did you hear that?
I think putting his body up on display like that is simply wrong.

Gaddafi dying is not important. This was never the aim of the NATO mission. The aim is to rebuild Libya and this is going to be immensely difficult. The NTC are corrupt with members having Islamist ties and links with the old Gaddafi regime. This will make any attempts for Libya to turn into a modern democracy immensely difficult. It also has a very singular economy that relies on oil. It could easily be another Iraq waiting too happen. The NATO mission has come at a countless cost of lives and money. Very left wing view for me.

That was funny how they explained how gaddafi died. He like crawled out, walked about 10 steps and then suddenly dropped dead from crossfire, one bullet from side right into his head and another bullet came from front at the same time and into his stomach. Noone else was hurt in that crossfire except gaddafi and his son... What a story! Bullets coming from every direction and nobody else is hurt hahaha

I am not someone who buys into conspiracies but I do believe that you have to examine all of the facts, not just what certain people want you to hear, to discover the truth. I am not saying that Gaddafi was a wonderful guy, I never met him. But I will say that the motives of this mission to Libya might not be as humanitarian as it seems.

Took the words straight from me, except one question, did he really think he could stand a chance against USA and the British?
