Yes I enquired about that from one of the G mod awhile ago
This was the response
Autumn and Jared used to be VT councillors. I think they were gmods (could be wrong) and were there for members to talk to. Then the position kinda went, not 100% sure why. But no, we don't have councillors anymore. But you can have confidence in talking to any member of staff if you want help.
I would support the decision if it came back

There is no reason for it. That is what the community of VT is for, not just a few members. They used to be people who would help others through email, PM, chat etc... Now, (and always) there really wasn't a need because that's the point of a community. There doesn't need to be a special person for it. You can do the exact same thing a counselor could have done, without being called one.

Some people dont want to share there thoughts and feelings and issues with every single person. I think thats why we used to have it, I mean I was not here so I would not of known if it was ever used.
I think its all about options really, and who you feel comftorable talking too.
I mean your have a good point but theres things I would not share with the general population of VT.

Right, so the people that dont want to post out in the open can PM a mod, or a member they trust. Its just an extra position that we don't need.

well you said it was a position that we dont need. right?, well would it have a bad impact if we did not have it. I mean would it change the forums in anyway. I dont see the harm in having it.
Also 900th post lol

I agree with StoppingTime.
it won't hurt to have it, I guess, BUT there's no need for it, imo. You're able to privately PM people for advice and stuff (unless you have below 100 posts).

No, it wouldn't impact the forums badly. But I think there was a reason it was removed.
Thread here (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=54479) about why.

Well I guess that solves that then.
Anyway I think it would be good to try it again but It seems like its pretty much decided that its gone.

No need for it. Staff members are there for the same reason. I was around when counselors were. I can honestly say they were no different than regular staff members, save for mod powers.

I was a Counsellor. I realise how pointless the position is. Maybe if we had qualified professionals to answer serious questions it would make sense, but we don't. VT is a support network, people don't need to go to one person to talk to them.
Plus with G mod power? What the fuck for? It makes no sense. Completely pointless....

If someone wishes to approach someone, by default it makes the person a counselor.
Generally speaking there's no need for such a position, anyone and everyone can be a counselor here.
What matters is not the position, but the effort.
If anyone genuinely wishes to help another, they just do it. True satisfaction comes from being appreciated rather than titled.
This is a peer to peer thing, at certain points one may be a counselor or counselee or both concurrently.

So many years ago when I was puberty 101 mod, I remember seeing counselors on the staff along with me. Their job was kinda useless. Some member a few posts up gave a good point. Ordinary members can do just the same things counselors could do.

The Counselor position is a dangerous one. It gives members a false idea of someones qualifications. Don't want to be misleading people.

Yep. But yeah, we double as them as well. I'm a good listener. :3

Any member of staff will help you out. or most members for that matter. The whole forum is about helping and supporting people. There's no need to have another seperate person to help.

Yes, that is why this site can be called a community, we are here to help each other whenever we need it, I for one enjoy helping others. It makes me feel that I have done my good deed for the day. I enjoy helping people and that is what this site is all about....

Perfect Answer. Just spot on tbh. This is Virtual Teen, there ain't a teen that's gonna be having a psychology degree and still be on here. It was something that worked back in the day, because VT was a bit of a different community than it is now. Counselors are completely useless. Virtual Teen forums is for teens to give and get help. Whether staff member or not. This site is about giving and receiving advice. So the members as well as staff members are qualified to do that. There shouldn't be any power granted to that unless they're hired to be a moderator. And since this thread has gotten enough replied and this answer.
