Usually, you have to be here for three months to even apply, and have 100+ posts. Don't do it immediately, get to know the site.

yeah don't ask. and it will take you a while to get to know the site a little. two months in and i got a neg rep for not knowing where the FAQ section was, so I'm almost on my three month mark and I'M still a noob. so you got a while.

Do not ask to be a staff member. Asking does not improve your chances of becoming one. Staff members are chosen by behavior, demonstrated maturity and trustworthiness, and knowledge pertaining to a particular forum and its subject. Openings may be posted, or an administrator may privately seek a potential candidate.
