So the button at the top, the one that locks/turns off your device?
I dented the metal part around it when i dropped it after school today. It's stuck in one position.
I think it's stuck in the down position, because I had to cancel the thing that asks "side to power off" thing.
So, Um. I don't know how to fix this.

Stepmother suggested I take the metal back off (how?) and bend the metal back into place with a pair of pliers, but I'm not sure
A) that's intelegent
and
B) if it would work.

I'm in no way shape or form under warranty, it's a 2nd gen I got for ~$80 at a pawn shop.
If I can't fix it I'll harass her to get my a new/refurbished 3rd gen like she's been promising for awhile. But she's easy to manipulate and I'd like to keep that coin for later if I can.

Thanks guys :D
(yes. I'm aware of google. I've got to leave in a few and I'm hoping someone knows how and/or has done this before)

Use a strong thin object, slide it between the power switch and the case. Bend the aluminum up and OUT way from the button.

I see absolutely no way to get anything inbetween there, the metal and the edge of the button are flush or possibly jammed into each other.

Because it's dented, one part is raised up (sadly it's on the right of the button ) and tried getting tweezers in there to bend the metal outwards (away from button), but it's not enough to get a grip.

Don't touch it yourself. I made that mistake trying to fix something before and i cracked the screen. Find a local place that does ipod repairs and talk to them about it. Its cheaper to have someone else sort it now than to try and fix it yourself, muck it up and end up having to pay even more for multiple repairs or risk having to buy a completely new one.

Repairs = $60
I paid for this = $80

If I can't fix it myself, I' have to get a new one anyway, no one's about to repair a 2nd gen touch

Pfft if you're gonna buy a new one, you can send the broken one my way :P I'd fix it myself.

They repaired mine quite cheaply :P Quite recently too. Don't assume before you check but if its easier/cheaper for you to get a new one then go for it. Different repairs will cost different amounts but I think taking a small dent out won't cost too much, its just the manual labor fee they charge with it.

Google is telling me to use a thin piece of plastic (like gutar pick) instead of metal like tweezers/pliers because of the screen. Maybe it'll help.

youre right, no one's about to repair a device that old when you can get a 3rd gen refurbished for ~200, but you could take it into, say, radio shack or walmart, and see if they can at least point you the right direction
