View Full Version : How to ask for help

I hope this is the right place..
I have a few addictions...I'd rather not state specifics.
My family would freak out on me if they knew, but I need help. I don't want to do this anymore. I'm scared of what will happen if I don't tell them I'm doing this...and I'm equally scared of telling them.
I've done things for drugs that I'm not proud of. I've hurt people in so many ways.
I don't know how to ask for help.
Sorry for the rambliness of this..
Thanks in advance

You just have to occupy yourself with better things, because the moment you sit around bored is when thoughts of use come into play.

I've fallen out with people because of these things, but that's something to not worry about at the moment. Kicking it is what's the focus. If you don't give yourself time to pick up, you won't. Put your money towards something else. Get some goal you want to achieve and work towards them.

If you need anything I'm here. I'm unfortunately quite experienced in this field.

If you want help from your parents it's best to sit them down and have a serious talk about it with them.

It's pretty clear that she does NOT want her parents involved.

OP, talk with a counselor at school. Have your friends take any supply you have and flush it. You need to find other things to do - sign up for school clubs, do a winter sport, get a part-time job. The temptation is everywhere. If you're not constantly staying busy, you'll end up using. You must busy yourself all day to the point of passing out when you get home, and then wake up and do it all over again.

I think it'd help us if you said what exactly you've been abusing. Occasionally people will come on the forum and withhold the substance they have a problem with, leading us to believe it's much more serious than it is. For example, a weed "addiction" is nowhere near as much of a problem as a heroin or meth problem. I've seen them all, and the solutions for stopping each are very different.

Good luck.

Thanks so much everyone.
I've not been able to get on.
I can't get my family involved...not only will it hurt them but I'm not sure it would make the situation any better. After I was diagnosed with OCD they withheld the pills from me, convinced that I was faking for the attention and that mental disorders weren't real at all. So...telling them about this isn't exactly what I want to do.
I'll put in a request to talk to my guidance counselor in school tomorrow...and hopefully she'll be able to see me soon. Track starts up pretty soon so I'll go out for that.

@Staying Alive-
Coke mostly. Sometimes prescription pills, but only when I can't get it.
I use weed as well but it's not a big concern of mine...I'll kick that later.

Thanks for all of your input, guys.

When you say coke, I assume you're talking about the powder and not crack cocaine? I'm not sure where you get your hands on it, or how you can afford it, but it's good that you want to stop. Do any of your friends know about this? You could have them hold your money for you to prevent you from buying any, but you have to make sure they won't give you any under ANY circumstances.

Has physical addiction set in? If so, you need to see a counselor and possibly go to rehab for a short time. I know it sounds drastic, but physical addictions don't die without some serious intervention.

This situation is much different than your parents not believing in mental disorders - telling them you have a cocaine addiction is a tad more serious than being prescribed OCD meds. Like I said, you might be able to kick it yourself (or with a friend's help) if you haven't been doing it a while. Don't be afraid to get bigger help though.

Go see a school counselor right away. If you explain the situation they'll be able to give you better advice, and they can talk to your parents for you.

Good luck.
