Can be a range of things from lifting objects incorrectly, sport injury, not sitting correctly at the computer or game console.
Impossible to say over a forum without further details. If its too bad see a doctor for proper diagnosis and/or treatment.

Thats not nearly enough information, as Josiah said, for us to help you figure out what it is. I doubt its something a 60 year old would get unless you've got a serious problem you've probably overstretched or pulled a muscle. As the poster above said, see a doctor or try a heat pad on the affected area. Don't lay down to try and ease it, that won't help. Walk around and sit straight when sitting.

Why not ask a chiropractor instead of your big toe ?

Can you explain further? If they're as bad as you say - talk to your doctor.

1.Walk,don't sit still, sitting still will not help, walking will
2.Try a doctor or physical therapist before you see a chiropractor,i did the opposite once, long story short:they had to carry out to the car and i was unable to walk anywhere for over a week
3.Take it easy on painkillers
4.Hope you get better :D

Yes, you didn't give enough information, sorry. It could be anything from a pinched nerve to a slipped disc. I would just say if the pain still persist then I would take to your General Practicioner.

maybe some exercises or some oil masaj would be helpful in this case but if it's not work for you then you will have to consult with a doctor .. i wish you will be fine soon . Best wishes ..
