2:24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

not really my "favorite" verse, but it's one that disgusts me a lot. and it's not the only one

If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. Kill all the boys, kill all the non-virgin females and keep the virgins for yourselves. (where0 im pretty sure it then says if they are pregnant let their unborn fetuses fall to the ground

Deuteronomy 23:1 ESV

No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord.

I love this oh so much...

1 Samuel 18:25-27 ESV

Then Saul said,“Thus shall you say to David,‘The king desires no bride-price except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, that he may be avenged of the king’s enemies.’” Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son-in-law. Before the time had expired, David arose and went, along with his men, and killed two hundred of the Philistines. And David brought their foreskins, which were given in full number to the king, that he might become the king’s son-in-law. And Saul gave him his daughter Michal for a wife.

Yummy.

Exodus 4:24-25 NASB

Now it came about at the lodging place on the way that the LORD met him and sought to put him to death. Then Zipporah took a flint and cut off her son’s foreskin and threw it at Moses’ feet, and she said,“You are indeed a bridegroom of blood to me.”

“This is what the Lord Almighty says... ‘Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’” (1 Samuel 15:3)

Jesus was pissed at a fig tree
The next day..., Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." ... In the morning..., they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter ... said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree ... has withered!"
-- Mark 11:12-14, 20-21 (NIV)
(Sweetheart, maybe it's cause IT WASN'T FIG SEASON)

What is old is new but what is new is old but new
Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment, for it is an old one you have always had, right from the beginning. This commandment – to love one another – is the same message you heard before. Yet it is also new. (1 John 2:7-8 NLT)

Kill, kill, kill!
"Go up, my warriors, against the land of Merathaim and against the people of Pekod. Yes, march against Babylon, the land of rebels, a land that I will judge! Pursue, kill, and completely destroy them, as I have commanded you," says the LORD. "Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction". (Jeremiah 50:21-22 NLT)

Women must shut up
Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
-- I Corinthians 14:34-35 (NIV)

Your woman is under the same category as your ass
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
-- Exodus 20:17 (AV), The Tenth Commandment

If you beat up your kids, they will not die
Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod [sceptre], he shall not die.
-- Proverbs 23:13 (AV)

Stone teenagers to death
If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son ... Then shall his father and his mother ... bring him out unto the elders of his city ... And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die.
-- Deuteronomy 21:18-21 (AV)

Roast your virgin daughter alive
Jephthah made a vow to the Lord: "If you give the Ammonites into my hands, whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return ... will be the Lord's, and I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering." ... and the Lord gave them into his hands.... When Jephthah returned to his home..., who should come out to meet him but his daughter, dancing to the sound of tambourines! And he did to her as he had vowed. And she was a virgin.
-- Judges 11:30-32, 34, 39 (NIV)

The. Best. One.
There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

No MORALS!?!?!?!?

By saying THAT, you've basically blanketed half of all Christians (or religious people as a WHOLE) into the "Ignorant, Dumb, Selfish, EVIL Asshole" category, and giving yourself nothing to work off of. Do you think people think according to religion ALL the time, or only when it serves them in public eye? No, people are going to do what they think is right regardless of whatever divine figure they have in the sky. Most religious people admit it as some kind of honor that they are all "hypocrites", but in all actuality they are just attempting to conform what they believe will get them out of eternal damnation, ergo praying and repentance for any "bad" actions. I'm not making a complete denial of some of the teachings of religion, mind you - some of the stuff in the Bible is actually quite loving and caring - but I'm saying that if people didn't have Jehsus of Nazareth (or Bethlehem, or one of the three Jehsus' that lived during "Christ's" time), not all of them would be amoral fiends.

I'm not hating, I'm finding flaws in your argument for infallibility, and it's that supposed infallibility that really pisses me off, that people can get on a high horse and declare themselves (whether conscious or not) better than everyone else. Religion as whole implies a form of Us v. Them mentality, which is REALLY not good for the world, or a person as an individual.

Matthew 5:43-48

"You have heard that it was said 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy'.

But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and good. and sends the rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

If you love those who love you. what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?

And if you greet only your brothers. what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Not going to argue anymore, just going to point out the implied superiority to these "inferior" classes of people (pagans, tax collectors, etc.) in that last verse, supposedly from the caring, loving, all-forgiving God of the New Testament.

Religion as whole implies a form of Us v. Them mentality, which is REALLY not good for the world, or a person as an individual.

your argument is really nice, and i didnt mean to offend you by saying no morals. im just saying, people need to stop saying "in the sky." christians also believe he is heaven and in our hearts. Its like saying Atheists only believe in history. not science. your turn.

Hint for OP : never post anything Bible-related on VT, else you get scores of cool kids making fun of it because laughing at Christians and their scary obsession over an old creation myth is au goût du jour.

It inevitably ends up devolving into some sort of warped debate with "godless heathens without morals" on one side and "hypocritical superstitious gullible idiots" on the other. A lot of hair splitting, name calling and recycled arguments ensue. Oh, and name dropping. Especially the ones that start with D and G.

It was like that in 2006, glad it hasn't changed.

I hear bad parts. I wasnt gonna do this... but let's pull out the big guns.

Here is a website. i actually want you to read some things. http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/answers.html

Dude, from this website:

"The first assumption - that the Christian God is fair - is false! Wait a minute - a Christian admitting that the Christian God is unfair! Yes, you can quote me on it as long as you quote the rest of this paragraph. God created human beings with conscience that 1) tells them when they do wrong and 2) tells them that God exists. When we violate our conscience (something that all human beings have done), we know that we have sinned. Those of you who have never sinned can stop reading now and click here. Christianity says that all have sinned1 and, therefore, fall under the judgment of God.2 In order to be fair, God must judge all sin.3 Therefore, in order to be fair, God should condemn all people to hell.4 However, the Christian God is not fair, since He chooses to save those who accept His mercy.5 Those who want to experience the fairness of God will receive just that - God will judge them fairly."

I was told about God when I was 7. I was born into a nonreligious home, and in second grade my friend with Christian parents told me about God. I didn't believe in it, I was like 'what that makes no sense.'

So.... yeah. They're wrong about that.

Leviticus 18:22

Do not lie with a man as one would a woman, that is detestable.

I give three middle fingers to that verse. :D

You're supposed to be typing your favorite verse from the Bible, not bringing the Bible down.

Okay, so I am a believer. Alright. Here's my side of Atheism.

I think it's alright, but you don't necessarily have to hate. My brother is a non-believer, and he says that he loves religions, because without them, way over half of the now Christians in this world would have no morals. I agree with this statement.

FFS, please tell me you did not just go there. I am an athiest and a bloody proud one at that, do i want to run around and kill people?? no, because i have morals. Now look at your kind, research a little thing called the crusades. Morals do not come from religion, they come from ethics, which i can have even if i am athiest.

As for your complaint about athiests posting here, you are on a seclical forum and who is to say we dont love the quotes they dont teach in sunday school.

EDIT: http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/answers.html <<== this is just a load of shit

I really don't see how you can say that God is not fair, when he is very fair. He has given everyone a choice and a chance to ask for forgiveness from there sins, which EVERY sin is forgiven whether its lying or killing. I don't see how you think its not fair for God to send people to hell when they had a choice to believe in Jesus and be saved.

Because I don't think anyone deserves to be tortured as is said people are when they go to hell, especially for something as stupid as not accepting archaic and bizzare stories from the Middle East that probably never happened.

Well even though it came out so, here is my favorite verse:

Matthew 7:7

Matthew 16:24-25

Well, I have about ten or so, if that's ok with you guys I'll post them all.

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph. Amos 5:14-15

Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. Proverbs 3:28

Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good. Ecclesiastes 9:18

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. John 13:34

Thou shalt even drink it and suck it out, and thou shalt break the sherds thereof, and pluck off thine own breasts: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD Ezekiel 23:34

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception. Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them! Hosea 9:11-12

And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence. Amos 8:3

And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. Mark 9:43-49

Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. Peter 3:20

There is good things in The Bible. There is nasty things in The Bible. If you believe in the good things, you must believe in the bad too. This goes for you Westburo: If you believe in those bad things in the Bible, you best believe in the GOOD in it also.

The thing is, once you do that you'll realize how many contradictions are made for literally everything said in The Bible.

I don't like to be rude or insulting but aren't most post here rather sexual or violent? When I entered the thread I was expecting more the spiritual side of the bible, you know verses that inspires us. *shrugs*

Does it bother you that one minute your God will say love thy neighbor then the next tell a rape victim to get married to her abuser? Kind of strange if I may say. The Bible is a great work of fiction, amazing story, but needed an editor for the load of fucking contradictions. The Bible does not make any sense when you put the contradictions next to each other.

It's really just a pile of shit. If you want to be a loving Christian, fine with me. Go ahead. Don't go shoving it in faces, don't be closed minded to hide your eyes of certain passages you know exist in your book, don't go telling other people that their religion is dumb because yours is EQUALLY AS DUMB. Yes, The Quran has bad things too. It also has fucking GOOD THINGS! Don't talk shit about people's faith until you've actually researched good enough and read their scripture.

okay, seriously, I really didn't want to do this, but please only post if you are Christian from now on. I was looking forward to hearing things that could help me feel better. I accept you guys that you don't believe in my God, but that doesn't mean you have to bash it. Thanks.

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior so I can make this post. Yes, I am a Christian now, believing in God, believing in love, flooding the earth, not hating people, bla bla.

Sad to say I'm losing faith already. Seems I might go back to atheism after this post is over!

Don't feel bad as Catholic supporting pedophilia. See, as I am a Christian right now, pedophilia is awesome. Rape is good too. Just watch this inspiring video.

U9WGlM0Mrj0

The problem is that women have been sold this lie that they are the same as men and that those feelings they get are actually thoughts. True Christian girls and women who keep themselves demure and segregated from men and are duly submissive to their husbands at all times are actually incapable of being raped. The wisdom of God is revealed in this and it's turning their backs on God's commands that has led to this woeful state of affairs where they wantonly tempt men into fornication in their ignorance.

As a Christian, I must say it's always the victims fault. Read this beautiful article here. (http://www2.tricities.com/news/2010/feb/28/blame_the_victim_religious_leaflet_claims_ungodly_-ar-236411/)

"You may have been given this leaflet because of the way you are dressed," it begins. "Have you thought about standing before the true and living God to be judged?"

"Scripture tells us that when a man looks on a woman to lust for her he has already committed adultery in his heart. If you are dressed in a way that tempts a men to do this secret (or not so secret) sin, you are a participant in the sin...By the way, some rape victims would not have been raped if they had dressed properly. So can we really say they were innocent victims?"

I hear bad parts. I wasnt gonna do this... but let's pull out the big guns.

Here is a website. i actually want you to read some things. http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/answers.html

Typical work by an amazing GENIUS Godly smart apologetic:

How To PROVE GOD EXISTS SIMPLY BY FLIPPING A COIN!!!!!

STEP ONE

Get any coin. Now, before you flip it, concentrate and pray aloud: "God, if you are real, you will make this coin land Heads." Now, flip the coin.

Did it land heads? GOD'S EXISTENCE IS PROVEN! He has answered your prayer. The coin could've landed tails, but it landed heads. The flipping of a coin is random, but since it landed in agreement with your prayer, there is no other explanation than Divine Intervention.

STEP TWO (IF NECESSARY)

But....what if it landed tails? That's ok. That does not disprove God in the slightest. All that means is that God is testing your faith by making it land tails. So, again, say out loud: "I believe in you Lord and I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins! Make this land heads!"

Maybe this time it landed heads. If so, this is God rewarding you for your faith. He wanted to make sure you believed in Him, so He made it tails on the first time. This time, he is showing you His presence!

But okay, what if it landed tails again? Starting to doubt? Don't! Like I said, this is God testing your faith. In fact, you can keep flipping the coin and it might keep coming up tails. DON'T LET THIS DISCOURAGE YOU! Just keep flipping and it will come up heads.

STEP THREE (IF NECESSARY)

Now, say you flip the coin ten times and it comes up tails every time. "Surely this is evidence that God doesn't exist", some atheist idiot might claim. "At this point, this is not about your faith being tested, but the fact that there's no God that can make it land heads!"

Well, what I got to say may surprise you: In this case, God made it land tails on purpose. And that proves God. But how?

Did you know the odds of a coin landing tails ten times is astronomically impossible? For you to witness such a rare and unlikely event could only be explained as a miracle! Only God could make a coin land tails ten times in a row! Don't believe me? Start flipping again. See if you can make it land tails tens times again. Go ahead and try it....you'll be there all day.

In conclusion, all an unbeliever has to do is take out a coin and flip it to see in front of their very eyes that God is indeed real and that Jesus Christ died for their sins on the cross.

This scientific experiment has destroyed the atheist's argument and they are afraid to admit it.

Funny how I used this coin flipping technique to turn into a Christian for making this post! Damn, I might have to stay a Jesus lover now. This was a fucking miracle!

And ok, before you fucking idiot atheists debate me, you better listen to this mans music first. You'll be converting in no time.

Convert with me, atheists. Come on this side of Jesus. Stop your pagan satanism now.
