The boy I like held the door open for me this morning. It's not like he had a choice, but still. I tried to say thank you, but it didn't come out because I was nervous. Should I try to start something by sending him a message on Facebook? Maybe say something like: I don't want to seem rude. I meant to say thank you this morning :)

He didn't really have a choice. We were all kind of just right there when he happened to be walking in. We were in his way. Maybe I'm just over thinking all of this.

Should I add the smiley face? Should I not send anything at all?

Please help :/

I think it is always nice to thank soemone for what they have done but if you feel that you need to thank him then go ahead and do so. Your e-mail can go along the lines of "Hey, thanks for holding the door for for me today, just wanted to make sure you know." If you want to put a smilie face then go ahead, what harm is there in placing one.

Perhaps note that it's something different and thank him for it. Good conversation starter right there. Go for it, what have you got to lose?

No. Don't message him. Talk to him in person.

If I got that message from someone, I'd be very intrigued and I'd want to talk to them.
Go ahead :) it might make his day! :)
