When I get really stressed, for weeks on end I can't sleep properly because I get really anxious and scared at night. I don't know why, the fear isn't really directed at anything but I don't know what to do about it :(
What are some things I can do to get to sleep?

Maybe find out something that calms you at least some and do it before bed?? Like listening to music, writing, etc?

Try to relax, maybe get some decaf tea to drink a little while before bed. It can be soothing.

Turn off any TV or computers in your room and just read a book. A really boring one if you have to. Eventually, you should get tired enough and sleep. Works for most people.
Or, like Sarah said, maybe write down any problems you are having into a little journal. Getting them out of your mind and onto paper might calm you.

Pretty much what everyone above me said. You just have to try not to think about whats stressing you. I get this on occasion, and I lay in bed for hours and am lucky to get 1-2 hours of sleep. reading, listening to calm music, or just laying there and not doing anything helps. Hope this gets better for you.

Calm yourself down before you try to sleep. If you lay there trying to sleep and your mind is racing, then distract yourself. Read, listen to calming music, draw, write....or do something else you enjoy that will distract you. Like others have said, avoid computers/technology, that is no use if you are trying to sleep. Don't look at a clock, don't focus on the time or how long it may have been etc.. that just makes it harder to get to sleep.
I am the same as you, I get anxious over things and cannot get to sleep. What I do is have a warm milk, tea or hot chocolate, and I actually have a stuffed toy on my bed, sometimes I cuddle it :P I also have a night light, that surprisingly helps. My night light is more of a lamp, a children's one...a blue rocket, but it is dim and calming. :)
