View Full Version : Revamping Some Forum Descriptions

I think we should change the descriptions of 2 forums. We already agreed, and it was decided (which, by the way, someone posted and said that it should apply then I noticed that it should be in the forum description) that the puberty forums were for puberty questions and sex ed questions (contraceptives, STDs/STIs etc.). But right now the forum says 'puberty questions only', which contradicts the fact and may cause confusion.
After all my rambling  I think we should change the puberty forum descriptions to include sex ed questions, and I REALLY think that we should revamp the FAQ sticky but that's another story....
How about
"Post your puberty questions for guys here. Sex ed questions are welcome"
And for girls basically same thing only substitute 'girls' for 'guys'.
On another forum description note, the new Mental Illness forum doesn't seem to welcoming in the description.
Bobby recently made a nice announcement saying that you can post in the general forum if you have a question that isn't covered in the subforums. I think this fact should also be put in the forum description and it should be a little more friendly that a line saying 'Mental Illnesses'
Maybe
"For all your questions about mental illnesses. If a subforum doesn't cover your question, feel free to post in the main forum!"
Or something like that
I talk too much :P

Yeah I was thinking of suggesting this. I agree with you.

I agree with you mostly.
You know how I stand on the puberty forum. If it's titled Puberty. Than it needs to be about development, not sex, or STD's. With that said, we should change the forum name. Something that includes sex ed, and puberty. Give me some time and I might be able to get a good name.

I think the name of the puberty forums are fine.

In relation to the description of Puberty101 I don't think we need to put in the description the fact that we allow Sex Ed. questions. For the simple reason that the wrong people could look and see that and think "Oh teens talking about sex, fantastic!"
I would be in favour for the removing of the statement "(Puberty questions only)". I think we had it removed at one stage, can't really remember. But I think we could remove that.
The stickies and FAQ's I had a quick look at and I think they are looking good, and they have massive views as well so I think they are serving their purpose. But the Mods there should keep updating them regularly, so it's always helping. But I think they are good.
The Mental Illness forum I suppose could do with an update of description. Seeing as its pretty basic at the moment.

The stickies imo are cluttered and the FAQ needs updating on Sex Ed facts, such as condom use and STDs/STIs. There's alot more that can be added. See, I'm not trying to say we should re-write the posts. Just add some posts about things that haven't been posted yet.
And I kinda disagree with you on the description, but I guess that's the best we're gonna get, so I hope it works out.
The Mental Illness forum is very basic. Change it maybe??
The puberty forum names are fine. Maybe an announcement should be added! Plus, imo there's way to many annoncements so I think one should be done with.
I don't have all the answers! I'm just suggesting and hypothisising! :(

In relation to the stickies and all that, I will bring that issue up in a group PM for the Puberty Mods we are preparing.

Maybe we should explain the difference between Sex and Sex-ed.

Yeah, but the way it is now isn't that different. I'm sure that forum will attract those kinds of people no matter what with discussions allowed about jacking off with friends and pretty much anything else. Face it that forum is an attraction for sick people and I think adding a note about sex ed won't make i worst but if legit people can see it's allowed they'll know they can ask their question.

i was thinking, cant we make the forums private to those who have not signed up? or at least the puberty ones.

No, because it's better for them to get off as guests because as guests they aren't hurting anyone but if they are forced to sign up then they'll be members and that would give them the ability to send PMs and access to people's instant message screen names.

I know what you are saying. But I think people are already asking Sex Ed. questions as it is and I believe, or at least it should be, in an announcement or sticky there as well. So I think the highlighting of that fact in the description is unecessary.

I don't think that would work well. Because people I think, want to have a look around before they join, to try and see what the place is all about. If they cant do that then I think a lot of people might not join.

Mental Illnesses Description: Come talk about the illnesses that live in your mind, but can take over your life.
Like it?

Thread?? Don't you mean forum? O_o
Bobby I don't like the description because it's too plain and not exactly worded too well.
I agree with Alex on not making the forum private
And here's the thing about Sex Ed: People ARE posting questions about it, but they always come in with a statement like "I'm not sure if this goes here...". I think it would put some people in the right mind about it if we just did something. And plus, that announcement isn't fully up-to-date.
I agree with Ant.

Before we were hacked the description included sex questions were allowed after we decided to allow them last summer. Then when the database was restored to July the forum description went back to the old one.
It's more friendly to have it in the description because most people don't read the announcements or rules.

Its just my opinion on the matter, and I can see a general concensus towards of putting it in. Majority always rules!:P

yes movealong i meant forum
and you know i agree people already talk about sex ed on the puberty forums but like it has been said it has not that much to do with puberty. also if a new forum is made then that would attract bad peeps so maybe we should just leave it how it is
