Does anyone think there should be a post requirement to post in the shoutbox? Like you must have 5 posts before the shoutbox appears to you

I like this idea but I think it should be more than 5 maybe like 10 or 20 or maybe 50 when you are no longer a newbie

I never use it but I think a secure 25 posts should be good enough Just so you dont get the stupid people who just make 3 posts in p101 then leave

I dont think its really necessary. Ive never seen it spammed before, and most new people to the site dont even notice it until after they've been here for a while.

o shizzzzzzzzzz never seen that before. I dont know if those r bots, but mayb we should have a limit then :) I think 25 is reasonable, shows you want to be here, not just 4 puberty for a day and leave.

Yea we get those now and then quite irksome so 25 I think is good

Is there another one of these threads? Probably just me getting confused, hardly unusual :P
Anyway, I would say that it's probably a good idea, as it won't disadvantage the site in any major way, and could help prevent shoutbox spam.

You would have to understand that maybe the current shoutbox does not allow the setting and that is why it was never applied in the first place. Certain vBulletin MODs do different things, and act differently.

If vBulletin allowed it, definitely. I saw literally thousands of spammy shouts last night, and it would be great if we could stop future accounts.
They were non-stop for about three hours.

i came on briefly late last night, like about 11.30pm (gmt+10) friday and they were at it then. the shoutbox was full of it. a tad more then 6. 6 was the number i saw before scrolling down. i left a sarcastic post for them and left. then when i've come on this morn, i see it continued for at least another hour after i left. so it was a decent spam attack. at least they kept it to the sb rather then posting in the forums too. anyways, have fun cleaning it up....glad its not my job anymore aaron :P

I think this really needs to happen if possible. We just had another troll spamming it up

As has been mentioned before by other posters, I think a 25 posts limit would be suitable for one to use the shoutbox.
It would certainly prevent certain unconventional situations.
Most sincerely,
Robert.

I think the spammers are hilarious haha. They're just dumb trolls. Harmless, really. I find them amusing. And I know Jon probably enjoys editing their posts ;)
Anyway, it's not possible, I don't think.

I think only a five post count is needed bc the mods get to it quickly. But if the mods are getting annoyed with the amount of spams then sure, a 25 post count is good.
Also, i want to ask, y not warn then ban them?

to be honest with you guys here; I really don't want to have anymore post requirements for some small issue that can be easily fixed. If clowns want to spam, then let them and they will not only be banned but their shouts will be deleted as fast as they appeared.

they came here only to spam. warning them would not work.

they are SPAMMERS. they don't deserve a second chance. they came here with only the purpose of spamming the shoutbox/forum and/or "trying to shut down this forum"

they are bots as in not real people so if you give them a second chance they will just continue to spam.

well, usually they have a bunch of numbers after the name so its easy to identify. And if they are bots and they spam again just ban them.

Bots dont always have numbers after the name. It depends who programmed it.

A lot of normal users here have numbers after their name. So that doesn't really mean much.
well, then if they keep spamming just ban them
Oh my, I never thought of that....

yeah, I guess your right. But I still think you should not have to post OVER 15-25 times in order to gain access to it.

Well, this isn't possible through BB, and Scarface doesn't want it. So whats the point to continue arguing?
There will be spammers, if they do it enough, they'll be banned
