The main issue is video games such as Grand Theft Auto. I think it is all a bunch of bull, kids can think for themselves

What are your thoughts?

Yes kids can think for themselves, but when they see games like that at about 8 or 9, since never really been exposed to that type of behaviour will think that it is ok for that type of behaviour to happen.

Its all well and good keeping it confined to the game but when they start trying to copy or condone the behaviour that happens in it, it becomes the problem.

not the games fault
thats the parents responsibility
thats why every gamming system out now has parental controls
thats why every tv provider and every internet provider has parental controls

the parents can choose to use them if they so wish
personally
i love my 360

we've grown weak
schools should train the mind and the body to keep the next generation in shape, healthy and ready for the real world
teaching shouldnt be so rigid it should be as flexible and mendable as those it teaches
its supposed to work with our youth not against
the education system in every western country is failing horribly

we need to stop blaiming everything on tv, the internet and video games

Playstation didn't design that game for kids it's designed for those in their late teens and adults. It is the parent's responsibility to monitor what their kids buy or what they buy for them. Store clerks aren't going to pay much attention if a 14 year old buys GTA so it's really up to the parents. Some kids can handle it at 13 while some can't at 16 so it's really up to the parents. Though if a parent allows their 15 year old to play it and he shoots up the school then it's a risk they took and it's their fault.

Kids can't think for themselves sometimes because you're just kids and it doesn't mean you know everything. You've got a lot to learn before you make your own decisions and think for yourself.

first off, when making a thread like this make sure you are clear on what you are trying to discuss..it just makes it easier for a person to understand.

It should be the parents responsibility in regulating what game their children plays. Everyone always points fingers at the game company but they never point fingers at the parents, who allow their kids to play these games. THE ESRB created a game classification: E,T,M, and A. It is also up to the retailers to regulate this system.

They just use games like these as scapegoats instead of addressing what is wrong in our society?

we had a discussion about this at school, how videogame violence should be banned because it is a direct correlation to real life violence.

i laughed when someone agreed with that...i laughed out loud.

anyways, the game that your 3 year old bought called Grand Theft Auto is directly the guardians fault. especially if the little 3 year old brings a gun to school and shoots his fellow classmates.

also, me being a teenager myself, i can say that when i play violent video games, that it does not provoke me to act violently. i know better, because im not completely absent minded. also, if you do shoot up your school, then video games are the least of your problems. you have serious mental problems.

people say that the columbine students were violent because of video games. WRONG! they were violent because kids bullied them, and so they brought weapons to school and killed the kids that bullied them.

bottom line, stop telling everyone that media violence is the reason why teens die and kill each other. everyone knows that its not true, so stop.

There was someone where my dad works that decided that gta was getting boring and they wanted to see what it was like in real life, so they brought several guns to school... Luckily no one got hurt, but anyways, I don't think video games have that much influence, and yes, it is a parents decision, but I think rated M games should not be doled out to kids still in elementary. Maybe 12 at the youngest, but again its up to parents, it is true that if a kid commits murder, the charge can land on the parents. There are actually several ratings Dante missed, just to bring them up: EC (early childhood), E (everyone), E 10+ (everyone ten and older), T (teen), M (mature), AO (adults only). But think about it, video games are like movies, E is like G rated movies, everyone can see/play them without worries. E 10+ is like a PG movie, little kids may want to avoid, but basically everyone can play/see it. Then T is basically like PG-13, if your older than 13, then fine, but if under, parents should have some influence. M is like rated R movies, teenagers go to rated R movies all the time, but parental influence should be a factor, and the parents decision should overrule the adolescents, and pre-teens/grade schoolers, should really avoid these movies/games, as they may not be mature enough to fully understand them, and may decide that shooting stuff looks like fun, and that they want to do it in real life. Then lastly, there AO games, which can be compared to the no one under 17 rating, no one should play/see these if they are not adults, these movies are impossible to get into even with a parent (unless you look of age, and ID is not brought up) and these are hard to find, but not impossible to acquire if under 17/18.

some people are like really fucked up, like they have mad problems, thats why they get bored and wana see what GTA would really be like, u cant think like that for all of society. i agree w/ everyone, its the parents fault if their kid is playing games at too young an age. i think, if a kid gets ahold of a real violent game at a real young age, they're logically most likely to be more violent later in life than a kid who went through the same life as the other one but didnt play the game. its the ideas introduced into the kids head at an age where they dont understand things so they go with those ideas. its the parent's fault that the kid got ahold of the game at that age, not the makers of the game. some games i think are just too grusome or violent, but that's me, so i dont play them. people dont want to admit they cant control a situation so they blame the video game creators. if some bitch ass mom came into school and we had an assembly about video game violence and its influence, id laugh in her face
