Schweddy Balls ice cream (http://theclicker.today.com/_news/2011/09/08/7667523-ben-jerrys-tosses-out-some-schweddy-balls) is the latest in frozen threats facing your children, at least according to One Million Moms. (http://onemillionmoms.com/IssueDetail.asp?id=422)The conservative organization, an offshoot of American Family Association, has called for a boycott of the newest Ben & Jerry’s flavor because they find it offensive.
“The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive,” the group posted on its website. “Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket.”
The flavor is named after the classic Alec Baldwin sketch on “Saturday Night Live,” in which he plays a bakery owner named Pete Schweddy. The most famous line (and the one most often repeated by drunk frat boys) is his end note: “No one can resist my Schweddy Balls.”
Clearly there is a double entendre here, but is it really worth protesting vanilla ice cream with rum and fudge-covered malt balls? After all, Trix may be for kids, but rum ice cream is for the rest of us.

Well, One Million Moms watched the skit (they give a play-by-play in their call to action), and they are still not amused. They are asking for people to write to Ben & Jerry’s and ask them to refrain from producing another batch of what’s currently a popular flavor.“We’ve been hearing from many fans. It appeals to those who love our irreverent sense of humor,” Ben & Jerry’s spokesperson Sean Greenwood told Gannett News Service. “If you watch the skit, it’s a lot easier to get the joke,” he said.
They also cite their disdain for the special addition of Chubby Hubby called Hubby Hubby, created in 2009 to celebrate the start of legalized gay marriage. “It seems that offending customers has become an annual tradition for Ben & Jerry's,” One Million Moms writes.
We asked some parents on our TODAY Moms Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/todaymoms#!/photo.php?fbid=10150294794847984&set=a.373772697983.153035.157687092983&type=1) what they thought, and here's what a few of them had to say:
Rachel Helie (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002305976350): "That's kind of the point. Tongue in cheek. Sheesh. Just because we are mommies, we shouldn't lose our ability to have a sense of humor. My fave is Karamel Sutra, and that is 'provocative.' As long as they keep making it, I could care less."
Jennifer Dean Martz (http://www.facebook.com/jmartz001): "Of course it's vulgar. The SNL skit was intentionally vulgar...what SNL skit is not? I just won't buy it as i would never want to hear my kids say they were eating schweddy balls lol"
Shannon Orton (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000109644979): "I'm mad that I cannot find it in any stores in my town and I want to eat Schweddy Balls! Oh and I'm a mom."
What do you think? Did Ben & Jerry’s go too far with Schweddy Balls, or is this organization overreacting?

The dumbasses at the American Family Association (god I hate that name) can boycott Ben and Jerry's all they like, but I think they're a successful enough company that they can just ignore it. It's a bloody icecream flavor.

I would agree with you it is only an ice cream flavor and people need to think about this before they start protesting

The entire situation can be looked at funny. It can be considered funny that people are wasting their time on a protest such as this. There is no need to get hostile just because you consider this pointless new story.

Oh, and was that directed at me, the person who actually wrote the new article, the story in general, or all three?

People are really willing to go through all this fuss for something as simple as an icecream flavour? That's preposterous.
With all the things going on in the world right now, that's what people are focussing on?
Those people should start paying attention to things that actually matter, and stop worrying about how icecream can "scar" a child.

Most sincerely,
Robert.

People are too sensitive sometimes.

If it was called "Chocolate, vanilla, malt balls, and rum" nobody would care... Although that name would be awfully long.

That was directed at the parents who are uptight about reality.

Bored housewives who think they need to parent the world, and know what's best for kids. Ben and Jerry's gave them a reason to turn off Dr. Phil for a few days.

That's funny. My mom would get a kick out of it, if anything. People need to chill and stop bugging over dumb stuff.

People are so touchy. Kids here worst things in school and on the radio, it even worst. And personally, I don't really care for OneMillionMoms, these are the same people who objected B&J's "Hubby Hubby" flavor celebrating gay marriage.

I say we all go out and buy like ten pints!! SCHWEDDY BALLS IN THE MOUTHS OF ALL!!!!

I think it's hilarious. If people had a better sense of humor the world would be a better place. There's no reason for anyone to change the name or get rid of it. Christ. People are so whiny.
