My friend went to a therapist for SH and depression. She told her parents that she was dealing with things they couldn't help her with and she needed to talk to someone else.

I went to a therapist who recommend a psychiatrist but after she taught me to talk about it I didn't even need to go the psychiatrist but you really should just be open and honest with their parents secrets are a burden and the truth is liberating. Also I found it helpful to share it with trusted friends it helps you to feel less isolated.
