On another forum, I post on, someone posted a President Obama's video for the It Gets Better Project. This led to a debate because some people felt that Obama has not done enough for gay rights, and as a result he has no business making such a video because he has failed to make it better.

I would have to explore this more to have a strong opinion, but I do think that Obama has done some great things for gays such as signing the Matthew Shepard Act, supporting the end of Don't Ask Don't Tell, and to me, I think those were huge steps?

Social issues are the last of his concerns right now.

I think he has done the most he could. If he tried to do more, he would run into the House and the Republicans in it. Plus, Social Issues should be the last of his worries right now.

Yes I think so (pretty much agree with everything in OP).

Why do you say that?

Why do you say that?

Hmm... Not like we're in a recession or anything...

Why do you say that?

Because when you have things like an economy on the verge of total destruction, an irresponsible government with no way to control it, and another election coming up, LGBT rights are the last of your worries. He can't put social issues in front of things like job creation and tax reduction. So you're basically implying social issues are more important than economic issues.

I wasn't trying to imply that the economy is less important; I just wanted to say that issues of social equality are not unimportant.

He did what he could. Dont' ask don't tell was repelled,a major win in my book. It's hard because all that Obama wanted or pledged that he was going to do was stopped hard by the right. They fought tooth and nail to the point were no good would have come out of it.

I disagree, I think he should move on to some of the "smaller" things that he can actually make a difference in, instead of trying to convince people that he has more than a hint of control over this economy.

Well I feel the USA economy recovery is important to the world as a whole so I think he should try and focus on the economy recovery

I agree that the economy is important, but LGBT rights are important too. However, Obama can't push it too much because a vast majority of Americans are religious, and they may struggle with major changes, and he shouldn't risk all the good he could do for a big change instantly. He probably is doing all he can.

Well thats what I was kinda saying.

The economey benfits the world as a whole and

LGBT rights are important but again religon is a battle we must face.

Time heals everything

Remember the UK used to have high religon rates but now we dont, times change
