I'm trying to quit cigarettes, amazingly, because of my most recent girlfriend. She doesn't like the fact that I smoke, and I agree with her, it's a bad habit. Every time I try to quit, however, I don't have problems with withdrawl or cravings, but I can't sleep. It's hard, and I need ideas in order to break this habit.

hmm..your body will eventually crash no matter how bad the nicotine is controlling you.

You're definitely better off quitting...health and money being big factors and your relationship is a good reason to stay on course.

Say hello to a withdrawal symptom: insomnia. Later on you might have nightmares, but at least you'll kind of be sleeping right?

In all seriousness, kudos to you for quitting. It's a terrible habit, and it's good that you have someone there to encourage you along the way. Try the nicotine patches or nicotine gum before you sleep. Just get smaller doses of nicotine in your system and you'll sleep much better through this period. You could also look into some OTC sleeping meds, but I've never had much luck with those for insomnia.

Good luck, you can do it!

Im going to be honest with you, you need to be doing this for yourself overall rather than someone else because it'll be alot harder to stick to overall.

Chew gum. A lot of it. Not necessarily the stop smoking nicotine gum it can be any as long as its giving your mouth something to do. When the cravings are really bad chew ice, I find that kept me distracted and above all keep yourself busy, the busier you are the less time you've got to stop for a cigarette and you aren't going to be just sitting around trying to fend off the urges.

The side effects are going to be making this just as hard and its going to get worse from here, just warning you but they will ease off within a month.

If you need anything PM me, I'll talk you through what I did.

Quitting is a great idea, and the fact that you have your girlfriend to motivate you is even better. Like Kaius said, start chewing gum. Maybe even start carrying Tic-Tacs with you or something along those lines. I wish you well with this

I quit because of my boyfriend. I don't really know how I did, I just stopped buying them, I forced myself to spend my money on something else.

But I do have one good tip: Once you do quit, DO NOT buy another pack thinking you can just smoke one more and you're good. It will suck you back into it. That's what happened to me a few times.
