A little while back, there was a suggestion for a new virtual teen logo. Most people didn't think it was necessary, but some dislike it now. I like the one we have (props to Origami!) but for fun, I decided to do a basic one that I think would go well with the black and gold theme.
I attached the PSD, and PNG. (the PSD is 1024x220 b/c of space limits on VT)
Any comments are appreciated :)

Honest a fair criticism is what you're going to get since I'm one of the pro-banner competition people. (:
First off, don't think "theme specific" banners. The number one reason mine was chosen was because Ant wanted a universal banner as VT had several different banners at the time.
Onto the piece itself, it's a good concept but the background isn't appealing. And honestly, I'm not entirely sure what you were trying to make of it. Also, don't use red on a black and gold theme. Stick to the color scheme, it just works better in the long run. (:
Keep trying! :D

Not too bad at all. I like the brushes you used in the background, which are they?

When you say universal, I am assuming you mean how you did it, same style just with different colors portraying to the different themes. this is what I was going for. I will try to improve it a little more and then repost the new version.
And props to Donkey for Global Modiness :D !!
EDIT:
Here is the new one... I kept the white spots in, what do you guys think?
I can't upload the PSD (I know Ant is awesome, but I think people who really have a good reason should be able to upload 2 MB+ PSD's, but anyway, if anyone wants it PM me.)

To be honest, I like the one you did first.
But, compared to me, you are a god at this stuff :p

You need to try and do something more with the background. It's lacking severely. And meh, PSDs are useless, just write tuts. ;P

It's a decent try, I however am deeply in love with the current black and gold banner Origami made that's now used.
That would suit the fantastic black and gold theme though. :)

After some thinking, I did a complete redesign.
This time, I based it on the blue theme. I found that it was easiest to start out with it for the logo I made. I think it could be easy to convert it for other color themes. Oh, and this was my first real time with Illustrator, which is what I used.

Quit with the 3D text. What respectable website do you see using it? Exactly.

I like the effort that you have put into this, but I don't see it working. The text and the background don't appeal to me as much as the one Josh designed (the current one).
Its nothing against you or anything, I just don't really like it.

I was thinking about this. But what do you think of the background?

I think it's awful to be honest. Interesting design, but you need to look at a few things next time.
Modern Design - Honestly look at more popular websites from Youtube, Facebook, Google, Tumblr, Twitter, Flickr, and other interaction based medias and you'll find shocking similarities in their site layout, design, and even their logo. Websites use small logos, forums often use huge banners but their concepts remain.
Simplicity - Don't overdo it. Flashy designs often look trashy and unappealing to the eye. You need to make something lively yet quaint that people will want to look at day in and day out.
Color - Use the colors on the website. Use the EXACT colors from the layouts. Your colors look "close," not exact. Too many different colors will destroy a banners appeal.

Thank you, I will definitely take these ideas into account :)

I know I'm a little late on this, but I just wanted to say that you do good work. I like the 1st and 2nd attempts the best.
Also, kudos to you for taking criticism so well! A lot of people can't or won't do that. Good for you man! :)
