Can you remember when you were younger, when you gave your mum or dad a big cuddle and you got that tingle in your belly?

That is love

I'd actually compare it to a mild ecstasy, maybe cocaine if you're really in the mood. Yeah, it's a lot like being high. Chemicals in your brain will do that to you.

I'm a nerd.

It takes 4 minutes and 90 seconds to decide if you're attracted to someone. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't have much to do with what you say. You could spew crap and it wouldn't matter.
55% is through body language, 38% is the tone and speed of their voice and 7% is through what they say.
So feel free to use crappy pick-up lines and mock their face and their mothers.

"Falling in love" is actually not really "love" at all. It's just adrenaline, serotonin and dopamine being released into your system. Might as well just jump off a plane and eat chocolate.

So I dunno, love is when that happens. I just chased all the girls and guys away, didn't I?

Lol, Z. I always think that as well. Science science science.
what we describe as love is technically a rush of different hormones in the brain when we meet someone we're attracted to, intitially we become extremely infatuated and as time goes on - a bond will have formed or it won't have. So it depends what definition you give love.

I think this author describes love perfectly in 'captain corellis mandolin':
Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."
I think if u want to know about love, thats a really good book to read.
personally love to me, is acceptance . When you love someone, you dont want anything from them - you might crave something but it is not essential to your relationship- you just want for them to be happy.

I have felt fraternal love.......it's a deep, special and unconditional bond. Even if my brother annoys the hell out of me at times, I know that I will be there for him forever, 'He ain't heavy.....he's my brother'
With regards to romantic love....well that's where I shut up. I've never felt it and I don't think I ever will. I don't know what it is. Is it only oxytocin (hormone)?....dunno.

I am going to use a quote from the Manga Loveless... because I am a geek.
“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.”

I know nothing but I suppose it's that feeling of always wanting to be with someone and getting upset when you can't.

Could be wrong, but whatever.

Love is seeing someone and unconditionally accepting everything and anything about them as the way they are right there and then- not because you have to and not because you want to but just because you do.

I think love is too well-deifined these days. "I love you" seems more like a weighty commitment than a simple appreciation of another person.
If you stop getting hung up on symantics and technicalities, I think that you'll find that you love most, if not all, of the people you share your life with.

I love my family because of the support they give me.
I love my friends because they are light-hearted and fun to be around.
And I love myself because I am as good a person as I can be and I maintain my moral and mental integrity.

Confessions like these should be at the back of everyone's mind when they approach the insurmountable task of nailing down a definition of love.

love is something of a rarity. I've only seen it once and felt it once. What a great feeling it is, like receiving an award or plotting revenge. sorry i cant describe what it is, only what it feels like.
