I have a blood test tomorow, i went to have one before but had a panic attack and diddnt have it, tmorow there giving me ethenox, to make me drowsy or asleep, so they can take the blood but im still utterly terrified and my mum always has a go at me if i freak out and end up not getting it done, and i dont know what to do, i dont understand whats gunna happen, and i dont want my mum to be mad if i dont have it:/

Don't worry, there is nothing scary about having a blood test! I had to have them all the time because the doctors were worried about my weight loss (it took them almost 6 months to figure out it was nothing internal, I was just anorexic). I am terrified of needles to the point of someone just has to mention them and my head goes fuzzy, but a blood test is nothing like an injection. Where with an injection you can feel the fluid going in, you can not feel the blood leave you. In fact I was shocked by how quick it was. After the needle is in, I can even watch now. It's so painless it's as if you're watching it being done to someone else.
I was never given ethenox to make me calm down, they just got in an extra nurse to hold me down, but it is probably a good idea for you. I know one girl who was really scared and they gave her two nurses, one drew the blood, the other stood so she couldn't see her arm and fiddled with her hand, as if she was getting a manicure. You could ask if they can do that for you?
Other than that, make sure to take a bottle of water and something sugary, even just fruit, to have as soon as they are done so you don't feel drowsy.

i normally hate needles, and unlike, anna maria, i have never felt the fluid going in, sounds cool thou, but usually when i get a blood test the doctors just make me turn my head, and they ask me questions, so i don't focus on it, and my mom always promises to buy me somthing after, normally take-out food, *I kno, im a bit old for bribery but hey it works*

I hate hate hate hate hate HATE needles. I've got a rareish medical condition, and while they were figuring out what it was, I underwent a ton of blood tests. Just remember that you're getting meds so you'll be less aware. Don't think about it. Think about happy stuff. Anything that makes you happy. Think about the reward. You should have doctors/nurses there to distract you if you don't actually fall asleep. I swear on my best friends father's grave that it's not as bad as it may sound.

Also, one tip.. if you're awake.. DON'T LOOK AT THE NEEDLE. Don't look around where they're doing it. just look away. squeeze something. heck, you could probably listen to music if you want. It doesn't take that long. Good luck! <3

Here is what they do, they give you the Ethenox and then they will come back in about 5min to check on you and see how out of the loop you are and then, depending on the test a certian order of tubes and then depending on how big you veins are a certian gague of needle and then they will use the turniguet to find a vein and sterilize the site. Then they will stick you. Take what they need and get out.

I am a phlebotomist, don't worry, we try to be as sensitive to the patients as we can be but sometimes due to hestaria from the patient everything gets blown out of proportion. Relaxe, it will be fine.

I only ever used it in pediatric cases.
