Not for attention

No one knows about my SH except for you guys on this forum. In fact, I go to some extremes to keep anyone from seeing my cuts:

I wear long sleeves. I don't cut anywhere but my stomach, thighs, and upper arms. I wear a jacket every day, regardless of the weather, claiming that I "get cold easily." I delete my browser history every time I visit this forum. I hide the razors I use just in case theres blood left on them, even after cleaning them off. I make sure I've stopped bleeding before I present myself to any person. And that's probably not even everything I do to hide it.

Why would anyone assume that people who SH are doing it for the attention? And I don't sound overly paranoid about this, do I? Who else does these things?

I am quite similar in these habits. I never leave razors lying around, they get put in a box under my bed, and my cuts are always where no-one will see them, or where I can blame them on something else like a papercut or something.

Megson - That is me. I make sure no one sees my cuts. Only people on VT and my best friend (who lives almost 3,000 miles away) know.

I always wear a sweater. I also use the cold excuse. I hide everything, and I make extra sure that no one finds out.

As for your question.. Because people are idiots and mean. And they just don't understand. You're not paranoid, as I am VERY paranoid.

LozziRAWR - Just out of curiosity, do you ever fear that your razors will get found in their location? Just with me and my life, if I left something (even in a box) under my bed, it'd get found easier, and I'd be really paranoid all the time about them being found. Also, I do that too. I leave a few little cuts on the top of my hands or something like that where I can blame it on them being chap or paper cuts.

After I cut I always make sure there arent any bloodstains on my shirt since I only usually cut on my upper arm/shoulder area. I always hide my razor blades and only cut at night when I know everyone else is asleep.

I dont cut on my arms or stomach, I cut on my thighs/really high up on my leg because nobody'll ever really go looking there, but when i did cut on my arm and when my arm gets really pale and you can see the marks well, i wear a sweater or jacket 24/7.

I know what you mean as i'm very similar with what you do. Execept one person(not counting them though) no one knows I SH. Even though it's mainly my arms where I cut I wear long sleeve t-shirts most days and jumpers when I don't. I also delete the browsing history aswell everytime I come on this forum. There are other things I do but can't think of. I can't answer why some people assume it's for attention as I have no idea why they think that.
