I'm 16, a Sophomore, and I really was wondering what the best time to start applying is? And also, what is the collateral on a student loan?
Thanks.

What? I don't think you can apply to most colleges until around a year or so in advance... no one is accepting applications for 2016.
But it's good that you're thinking ahead I guess. *shrugs*

Thinking ahead is always fine, being a freshman student now I would advise that you get your FASFA done asap, as in once your parents file their taxes, then make sure you put the college you chose to go to, put their collegic code on the fasfa forms and send it to them so they can start processing your finacial aide (this should be done around january, the ealier you submitt the more likly you might be to get grants instead of loans.)
Next you need to set up a date to meet with an admissions counselor, he/she will help you set up your classes and direct you on the How To's of the school, then most colleges have finacial aide counselors that you can talk too, make sure all of your forms get filled out and submitted ON TIME, I cannot stress that enough!!!!
Start selecting your colleges around the end of your junior year and then set up college visits during the summer, begining of senior school year, whenever, make sure you are awear of dates that are posted on-line by your selected college, learn their website back and forth, it will help. Then make sure to meet with your faculty advisor by the first week to egt to know them, they will help as much as possible but THIS IS NOT HIGH SCHOOL, they will help only as much as you help yourself, if they see you are not willing to put in the work they might say to, fuck off, <-----I have seen it happen, not to me but to some jock who thought he was all that<--- he wanted to be a Physician, no way in hell!!
If you have any questions please feel free to PM, E-mail, whatever, dropp me a line.
